Application&Variants

Introduction:-
The mill in which the materials are disintegrated by collision of a
particle with a particle, a stationary target or a wall of the containing
chamber.
The collision energy is generated by a high-speed jet flow.
In the other words we can say that, “the mill which is important for
the size reduction of the sensitive particles is known as The fluid
energy mill “.

Principle:-
ItisbasedontheprincipleofImpactandAttrition .
The Mill reduces the size of the particle up to 5um.
(A):-whenimpacttypeofstress(B):-when attritiontype of stress
applied applied

Construction:-
It consists a elliptical loop pipe
Diameter= 20-200mm
Height= 2 meter.
Surface of mill may be made up of either
soft stainless steel or tough ceramic.
2-6 nozzles are present for grinding.
A feed for inlet of particles reduce and one
inlet for air or inert gas.
Compressed air 600 kilo pascal to 1 mega
pascal is used.
Classifier is fitted at the product collection
point.
Venturi feeder is provide in the path of air
flow. The fluid energy mill

Working:-
>Rawmaterialenterthroughthehopper
>The air entering through the grinding nozzle
>Which transport the powder in circular track of mill.
>In turbulent stream of air particle colloid with each other.
>Particles are carried out to the outlet.
>And coarse particles under go recirculation.

Factors determining efficiency of the mill
The speed of the air / inert gas.
Feed rate and size.
The configuration of the mill.
Design of the classifier.
The position of the nozzle.
The impact between the feed or air.

Advantages & Disadvantages:-
Advantages
It has no moving parts.
No heat generation.
No chance of contamination.
It has facility to use inert gas.
Disadvantages
Not suitable for soft and
fibrous material.
It is expensive equipment.
Not easy to clean.
Formation of unwanted fine
particles.

Pharmaceutical application:-
It is used where the product is
highly heated and sensitive (like
antibiotics & vitamins).
To get ultra fine grinding.
It can reduce the particle to 1-20
micron.
Suitable for laboratories where
small samples are needed.
Variants:-
Afluidenergymillisalsoknownas:-
Pulverizer
Micronizer
or Jet mill.

Summary:-
The mill which is play a vital role for size reduction of sensitive
particles is called The Fluidenergymill.
Impact and attrition is the main principle of this mill.
Impactoccurs when size is reduced by hitting.
In attrition, two or more than two particle colloid together and
become small.
Construction and the working of the fluid energy mill.
Important factor determining efficiency of the mill.
Merit( To get ultra fine grinding).
Demerits( Not easy to clean & high cost ).
