needed for chickens of all ages. It is

Folate
Vitamin B9
Folacin

Deficiency and Effects
Folic acid deficiency means lack of folic
acid. Chickens are be more susceptible
than other meat animals. In case of
parent hens, folic acid deficiency causes-
 Reduced growth
 Decrease egg production
 Reduced hatching rate

Symptoms of Deficiency
 Poor feathering
 Fading of feather color
 Anemia
 Weakness
 Stunted growth
 Chicks die after piping shell

Symptoms…
 Perosis
 Pale or waxy white combs
 Pale mucous membrane in mouth
 Abnormal skeletal development

Diagnosis
Diagnosis of folic acid deficiency is
very important for getting good and
healthy poultry production. Folic
acid deficiency can be diagnosed
by-
 Blood Test

Treatment
 Requirement: 0.75-1mg/kg feed
 Supply with diet: 500ug/100gm
 Injection : 0.05-0.1mg
 Folic acid should be supplied more
than normal level

Prevention
To prevent folic acid deficiency, foods
that are rich in folic acid or Vitamin B9
should be fed regularly both from plant
source and animal sources.
