D. Specific Learning Objectives Identify and explain the problem-solution pattern in various texts. Use appropriate grammatical signals and expressions to articulate problems and proposed solutions in writing. Compose a short essay utilizing the problem-solution pattern while incorporating appropriate grammatical signals.

A. Activity Workshop: Problem-Solution Brainstorming Group Formation: Divide the class into small groups of 4-5 students. Topic Selection: Each group selects a social issue they are passionate about (e.g., bullying, climate change, poverty).

Presentation: Each group will create a visual representation (diagram) of their problem-solution analysis and present it to the class.

B. Analysis After the presentations, ask students: 1. What grammatical signals did you use in your presentation? How are the grammatical signals suitable to its pattern of idea development? 2. What is the problem in your presentation? 3.How did you identify the solution? Is the proposed solution effective? Why or why not?

C. Abstraction TOPIC: GRAMMATICAL SIGNALS OR EXPRESSIONS SUITABLE TO PROBLEM-SOLUTION PROBLEM AND SOLUTION-It provides information about a problem and suggests alternatives for a solution.

D. Application Real-Life Problem: Present a scenario: "The school is facing a significant decline in student attendance. As a class, propose a solution." Ask students to work individually to write a short paragraph outlining the problem and their proposed solution, using appropriate grammatical signals.

EVALUATION Directions: Read each paragraph. A graphic organizer is used to show the structure of the text. Fill in the missing boxes with the appropriate information.

EVALUATION Having a cold is no fun. Coughing makes it hard to fall asleep. A sore throat is painful. Try some tea with honey in it. The honey will soothe your throat. There may be no cure for the common cold. You can treat the symptoms though. PROBLEM SOLUTION

EVALUATION 2. A sprain is a tear in the muscle. Sprains happen when a muscle is twisted or overstretched. They can be painful. If you sprain a muscle, you should ice it immediately. Putting ice on a sprain will reduce swelling and pain. It may help stop internal bleeding too. PROBLEM SOLUTION

EVALUATION 3. Nobody wants to be stung by a bee. Bee stings are itchy and painful. But what if the bee stings you anyway? One thing that you can do is to put vinegar on it. The acid in the vinegar may reduce the pain and swelling from the sting. PROBLEM SOLUTION

ASSIGNMENT Direction: Write a one-page essay on a problem in your community using the problem-solution pattern. Be sure to include at least five grammatical signals or expressions that indicate the problem and the solutions .
