Fraction and Ratio Jigme Tashi RTC Thimphu

Fraction Fractions are usually written in the form a and b are whole numbers and b≠0 Fraction can be understood as a whole object divided into several equal parts. The denominator tells how many equal parts the whole is subdivided into. Numerator tells us the parts taken into consideration When you want to add or subtract two or more fractions, you have to make sure that the denominator of the all the fractions should be equal. (find LCM)

Types of fractions

Example Divide 672 in the ratio 5:3 solution: first sum up the values involved in the ratio 5 + 3 = 8 first part = (5/8)*672 Second part = (3/8)*672

Ratio Ratio of two quantities a and b is the fraction a/b and it is denoted by a:b. Eg : 4:5 = 4/5 Proportion When two ratio are equal, they make proportion Eg : 4: 5 = 8: 10 = 12: 15 etc. Also, 4: 6 = 2: 3.
