Learning objectives Students will be able to identify and describe the features of free verse poetry, recognizing that it does not adhere to regular meter, rhyme, or structured form. Students will be able to analyze how poets use sound devices (such as alliteration, assonance, consonance, onomatopoeia) in free verse to create mood, rhythm, and emphasis. 2

What is free verse poetry?

Free verse poetry - also known as vers libre , a type of poetry that does not follow any specific pattern of rhyme, meter, or structured form. Unlike traditional forms of poetry, such as sonnets or haikus, which have fixed patterns. 4

4 things we must remember; You don’t need to rhyme You don’t need to follow rules Can be short or long in any topic But 4. You need to create a visual image for the readers.
