Friedrich Müller (Eugene Sandow ) (1867-1925)

By right Eugene Sandow can be called the first and an outstanding body-builder. It was Eugene Sandow whose image bears the statue "Mr. Olympia". . Friedrich Müller (the real name of Eugene Sandow) was born April 2, 1867 in Königsberg, Prussia. His father was German and his mother - Russian. As a child, he was a weak and unhealthy. As a student, Friedrich became interested in anatomy and physical training, which helped him greatly to develop his muscles .

In addition to demonstrating the power exercises and the beauty of his muscles, he was also engaged in fighting and won the glory of the invincible fighter. After a successful European tour, Eugene in 1894 left for America. There, he was publicized as "the strongest person in the world." There he showed his remarkable talent as a businessman. Sandow advertised his technique of force development and sports equipment for that purpose, a healthy lifestyle and good nutrition. Thanks to him, the sales of books on bodybuilding, weights and dumbbells increased substantially.

In 1897, Sandow left for England, where he continued his performances and the promotion of his numerous techniques. He established the Institute of Physical Education, as well as shops and studios of physical training, the prototypes of modern gyms. In 1901, in England Sandow held the world's first beauty contest of athletic build, with the support of the royal family. By that time he finally retired from fighting and was fully committed to the promotion of its methods and the demonstration of power exercises. In 1911, King George V assigns Eugene Sandow a title of a professor of physical development.

Eugen Sandow died on October 25, 1925 in London, of a cerebral hemorrhage. There was a theory that it happened after he pulled his car out of the ditch with one hand. Sandow is buried at Putney Vale Cemetary in London, in an unnamed and not decorated tomb.
