How to tell difference: KetraNetvs. CCX
1.Model numbers
1.CCX and KetraNET model numbers are different and are called out in the spec sheets for each
device. For example:
1.CM-A2008HBTSD11E26WH –KetraNet
2.CM-A2008HGTSD11E26WH –CCX
2.Labels on the device
1.If the Ketra device has a label on it that says "Ketra" without the Lutron burst logo, this is a
legacy KetraNET device. CCX compatible devices will have just the Lutron burst logo printed
on the device. Note, applies to lamps only.
3.If already installed, more advanced methods are called out on Support Wiki
https://supportwiki.lutron.com/Pages/Engineering/Tech%20Support/ASC/KetraNET%20vs%20CCX%20Ketra.aspx

CONFIDENTIAL 6710/2/2020
Natural Show
1.Natural Show is a special type of scene for Ketra lighting, where when "activated" to the
show, the color of the lights will fade over the course of the day (the main use case
being to represent natural light changes throughout the day).
2.It works by defining the "curve" of the show in the software, and then activating
programming such as scenes that "activate" the show on Ketra zones.
3.The colors, intensity, and times of day can be customized. A show has a "ramp up"
curve and a "ramp down" curve.
4.The point in the middle is there because the ramp up/down of natural light is not a
straight linear change (the rate of ramp changes along the way with the horizon).

Timeclocks
1.Timeclocks in Athena are created in Lutron Designer, similar to HomeWorks

CONFIDENTIAL 7410/2/2020
Load Shed
1.There is a new tab under Program for Load Shed
a.This is where Load Shed is programmed
b.Soon there will be the ability to enable/disable Load Shed in the Lutron App
2.Programming options
a.Trim
i.This is the amount the lights will trim down from the current level (if "Settings" is Unaffected),
or the amount it will trim down the lights from the "Settings" level if it is not set to Unaffected
b.Settings
i.Either Unaffected, which is default, or you can set a level for the lights to go to, and then the
trim will additionally dim the lights by that percentage
c.Fade
i.How long it takes to dim to the set trim level after being enabled
3.

CONFIDENTIAL 7510/2/2020
Load Shed (cont.)
1.Testing:
a.Can be activate in Terminal window -"Tools→ Terminal"
i.The purpose of adding to the Terminal was an easy way for field service to verify
that the programming is complete for Load Shed.
ii.If there is a commercial integrator, they could use LEAP as well <We don't expect
this to be common yet>
1)The intention is that it would be activated via the NWK at runtime using the
OPEN ADR kit.
https://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/040459.pdf
2)App + BACnet are future phases

CONFIDENTIAL 7610/2/2020

CONFIDENTIAL 7710/2/2020
Afterhours
1.On the Occupancy programming tab you need to select "Show areas without sensors"
2.Afterhours can be programmed under the Occupancy programming tab if there is no Occupancy
sensor in the area by selecting the Type "After Hours" from the dropdown
a.Unoccupied tab
i.What the lights will do when going Unoccupied, can be the "Unoccupied Level" or a manually
programmed level
b.Warning Level tab
i.The level the lights will go to during the "Warning time"
1)Note there is no more "blink-warn" the lights will just go to the Warning Level
c.Timeouts
i.Total Timeout
1)This is how long until the lights go to Unoccupied Level
3.

CONFIDENTIAL 7910/2/2020
Daylighting
1.Daylighting by scene is no longer an option, if you select any scene it will always still
daylight after you program daylighting in the database.
a.After programming Daylighting, there is no way to turn it off, it will always be enabled
b.Soon, the Lutron App will have the option to disable Daylighting in an area
2.Daylighting to Low-End is the default and only option
a.Soon, Ketra devices will support daylighting to Off this option will be added back in.
3.Steps and screens for doing Daylight Calibration in Activation tab and setting up
Daylight Rows in Program tab are the same as they are in Quantum
a.You can only Daylight intensity for Ketra loads, you cannot affect color or CCT

CONFIDENTIAL 8110/2/2020
New Processor Discovery Method
1.Wired processors and CCX Gateways now use a protocol called MDNS for initial
discovery
a.DeviceIPwill no longer work and is no longer supported by the new processors
2.As soon as you go the processor activation tab it will start discovery -you can stop and
start discovery at the top-left of the screen
3.New "Firmware Status" and "Network Status" fields in discovery tab
a.Firmware Status -Has the processor found a newer FW on the cloud server or is it
up to date
b.Network Status -Is the processor talking to the could server

CONFIDENTIAL 8210/2/2020
Processor and Database Pairing
1.Processors can only be activated in one database at a time.
2.If they were already activated in another Athena GUI database, they will not be allowed
to be activated again in another database without a manual out-of-box which requires
physical access to the processors
3.OOB
Procedure:https://supportwiki.lutron.com/Pages/Engineering/Tech%20Support/ASC/Ho
meWorks%20QSX%20Out -of-Box.aspx

CONFIDENTIAL 8310/2/2020
Processor Firmware
1.Wired processor and CCX Gateway firmware is the same and will use the same file to
update
2.There is still a processors firmware version packaged with the Athena GUI
3.If you go to Tools→ Upgrade Processors the Athena GUI will check the cloud server for
the latest processor version -This also happens on the Transfer tab if there is a
processor firmware update needed
a.The Athena GUI and the processor firmware are no longer tied together, the
processor firmware can be NEWER than the Athena GUI and it will still work

CONFIDENTIAL 8410/2/2020
Processor Firmware (cont.)
1.The Transfer tab will prompt for a processor firmware update if the processors are
notat least at the packaged Athena GUI version, a firmware update then is required
2.There is no longer a "downgrade" option for processor firmware, there is no
goingbackwards
a.If there is a bug in the latest processor firmware, a new processor firmware
versionwith that fix will need to be released

CONFIDENTIAL 8510/2/2020
Available NIC Addresses
1.There is now an "Available NIC Address" section in the center of the screen which
shows you which NIC the Athena GUI is trying to use to communicate to the
processors.
a.If this NIC is not the one your processors would be communicating on, you can
select a different one and click "Refresh"
2.This is useful if you did not have the NIC that your processors are on active at the time
that you opened the Athena GUI. Clicking "Refresh" and selecting the new NIC should
help and avoid having to re-open the Athena GUI

CCX Gateway Networking (Q-RF)
1.Q-RF Gateways are powered via Power over Ethernet (POE)
2.Don't have to worry about "6 hops" anymore for Ethernet
3.Typically Q-RF will be wired directly back to the QP5 panel's POE switch
4.Needs to be communicating to processor panel in order to control Ketra devices
a.i.e. Controls such as QS keypads, Picos, etc.
5.Controls all the Ketra devices (similar to a QSM talking to Picos, sensors)
6.Talks 2.4GHz Mesh technology to the Ketra devices
a.Default channels selected are 25, 11, and 24
b.We want to alternate channels if multiple Q-RF gateways are on the same floor or close in range
c.Guide:ClearConnectTypeXCoexistenceGuidelines.pdf
d.Need to think and plan channels before starting Ketra activation, once Ketra devices are activated they listen to
the channel of the Q-RF they are assigned to and will need to be re-activated in order to change that channel

1.The Terminal window "Tools -> Terminal" in Lutron Designer can be used to execute some commands to processors,
such as pressing buttons or testing events like Timeclocks or Load Shed.

Ketra Rules and
Troubleshooting

Wireless range
& Channel
•Are all Clear Connect-
Type X devices within the
wireless range of the Q-
RF?
•Are there any Q-RFs with
overlapping coverages
that are the same color?
•Are Wireless Access
Points or any other
source of interference
(Limelight Gateway,
Microwave, etc.) at least
5 ft away from the Q-RF?

Wireless range
between fixtures
•Are at least (2) Clear
Connect-Type X devices
mounted within 25 ft of the Q-
RF?
•Are all fixtures within range
(25ft) of at least 2 other
fixtures within the same
mesh?

Connection to
building network
•It is highly recommended that the
system is on the internet. This is a
requirement for app-based control
either local or remote.
•No server needed!

System Ethernet Link
Connections
•All connections made
•Wire runs under 100m

Ketra Firmware Update
1.How long it takes to force per Ketra device? (Tools -> Upgrade Ketra Devices)
a.6 minutes per device, CCX links are done in parallel so with a full 50 device CCX
Gateway the max time to force an upgrade is 5 hours.
2.How long it takes for "slow background method" per device?
a.~2 hours per device, the firmware will be slowly pushed to devices in the
background once the processor is upgraded. When this process is done you still
need to apply the update in the "Tools -> Upgrade Ketra Devices" screen.
3.How to tell which way to use when on site?
a.Recommendation is to commission Ketra devices on Day 1 of startup. Once the
Ketra devices are activated you can then start the forced upgrade of the firmware (if
new firmware is available). You can leave this running overnight and it will be
complete by the next day of startup.
b.When the firmware is applied, the Ketra device will go off for ~3 seconds, then on.

Ketra Emergency
1.Every Ketra device that is designated as an emergency load per the Sequence of
Operations is required to have an LVS-SHUNT-D wired to it to meet UL924 requirements.
1.https://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/LUT-SHUNT-D_Spec.pdf
2.For those emergency loads, in Athena Lutron Designer, set the "Emergency" setting for the
Ketra load.
3.By default, all Ketra devices have their "Power-On Level" set to Last Level. This means
when they lose power and come back on, they will return to where they were before being
cycled.
1.This setting must be set to a Fixed Level for a few Ketra loads in each area in order to allow for lights to be turned on with a
power cycle in the event the processor is offline and cannot control loads. If this is not done, there is NO WAY to turn on a
Ketra device if it was off when a processor stops communicating.
