Hello! I am Teacher Trisha.

REVIEW What was your topic last meeting? What is the difference between Fantasy and Reality?

Activity: Communication Charades Instructions: •Various communicative scenarios are written on separate cards. •The class will be divided into small teams (Multiple Intelligence Teams).

•Each team will take turns selecting an index card and performing the communication scenario silently, using only nonverbal cues (e.g., gestures, facial expressions, body language). •The other teams will observe each other’s performances and will try to guess what the groups are communicating if necessary.

COMMUNICATIVE SCENARIOS Giving someone a compliment (verbal cue) Expressing frustration without words (nonverbal cue) Asking for help politely (verbal cue) Showing excitement through body language (nonverbal cue) Giving directions using gestures (combined cue)

Process Questions: What are the things you have observed that are involved when communicating? How will you improve your day-to-day communication using your realizations?

Verbal and Non-Verbal Cues in Conversation Strategies for Effective Interpersonal Communication:

OBJECTIVE: -Differentiate Verbal and Non verbal communication. Employ a variety of strategy for effective communication; -Use appropriate verbal and nonverbal cues when developing, maintaining and ending conversations and dialogs

SIMON SAYS… Follow what Simon says or you answer my question.

A study conducted by Mehrabian and Wiener in 1967 claims that 93% of all communication is nonverbal. Do you believe it?

What is Communication? -Communication is a process by which information is exchanged between individuals through a common system of symbols, signs, or behavior. -The objective of every communication is to have people understood what we are trying to say.

Two Basic Types of Communication Verbal Communication Non-verbal Communication

Verbal Communication Refers to the form of communication in which message is transmitted verbally .

Two Types of Verbal Communication Oral Communication - a communication which happens through word of mouth , spoken words , conversations. Example: Public Speech, news reading, television, radio, telephone, and mobile conversation.

Intrapersonal Communication - a communication that occurs in your own mind . Example: When you make any kind of decision like what to eat or wear.   Small group communication - it is a group interaction that results in decision making, problem solving and discussion within an organization. Example: A group planning for a surprise birthday party for someone.

Interpersonal Communication - a form of communication takes place between two individuals and is thus a one-on-one conversation. Example: Conversation with your friend. Dialogue with your teacher. Interview with your boss.

B. Written Communication - a communication happens through any word written. Example: Hand-written letters, encoded speech, Diary…

Non-verbal Communication Any communication without word of mouth, spoken words, conversation, and written languages. signs, symbols, colors, gesture, body language, or any facial expressions.

A. Facial expressions – the principal source of feedback. Different Types of Non-verbal Communication

B. Eye contact – the most expressive element in face-to-face communication. Different Types of Non-verbal Communication

C. Body movements & posture – the way you stand and hold your body also sends messages. Different Types of Non-verbal Communication

D. Gestures – the movement that you make with a part of your body, especially your hands. Different Types of Non-verbal Communication

E. Haptics – also known as “touching.” Different Types of Non-verbal Communication

F. Proxemics – refers to the amount of space that individuals naturally maintain between each other which communicates meanings. Different Types of Non-verbal Communication

G. Voice - the way in which a message is spoken is as important as what is said. Different Types of Non-verbal Communication

Any questions?

What is communication? What are the two basic types of communication and how do they differ?

NEXT ACTIVITY

Wordwall Link: https://wordwall.net/resource/55945524 Instructions: • A link will be sent to the class Group Chat. • Everyone will access the link and do the Wordwall activity where they will sort the given scenarios whether they are Verbal or Non-Verbal in nature. • Students may do the activity alone or share a device when playing. Wordwall Activity: Sort Me!

Expressive Intelligence Workshop

Activity Steps: 1.The class will be divided based on their multiple intelligences. (A test is already administered ahead of time) 2.Each group will have their special activity that is suited for their specific strengths.

3.The diversity of communication styles and the importance of understanding and respecting different forms of expression will be encouraged in this activity. 4.Encourage the whole class to apply their newfound knowledge of verbal and nonverbal cues in their daily interactions to enhance communication effectiveness.

Linguistic Intelligence Group •This group will explain the concept of verbal and nonverbal communication cues with each other. •The students will engage the class in a discussion about the importance of clear communication and the different ways people express themselves.

Spatial and Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence Group •The students will be assigned a specific verbal or nonverbal cue (e.g., nodding for agreement, using hand gestures while speaking). •The group will create short skits or role-plays demonstrating their assigned cues. •Encourage creativity in conveying these cues effectively through body language and facial expressions.

Musical Intelligence Group •A music will be played to the group and ask them to express their feelings or interpretations through movement (dance) or drawing (visual representation). •Discuss how music can convey emotions and messages without words.

Naturalistic and Interpersonal Intelligence Group •You will be given time to go outside and find tactile objects related to nature (e.g., leaves, stones, shells). •You will explore the objects and discussing how they might use them to convey ideas or emotions nonverbally. •The group will share with each other the importance of observing and interpreting natural cues in interpersonal interactions.

Intrapersonal Intelligence •Bring the class back together for a reflective session. •Facilitate the students to share their thoughts on which types of cues they feel most comfortable using and interpreting. •Encourage self-awareness and recognition of personal strengths in communication.
