GASTRIC SECRETION Dr MARWA SALAM
INTRODUCTION DEFINITION OF GASTRIC SECRETION ANATOMY OF GASTRIC SECRETION Cells+GASTRIC GLANDS PHASES OF GASTRIC SECRETION COMPONENTS OF GASTRIC SECRETION FUNCTIONS OF GASTRIC SECRETION
DEFINITION OF GASTRIC SECRETION The stomach is famous for its secretion of acid, but acid is only one of four major secretory products of the gastric epithelium, all of which are important either to the digestive process or to control of gastric function
ANATOMY OF STOMACH Hollow organ Situated below the diaphragm on the left side in the abdominal cavity Volume of empty stomach is 50ml Normal condition is 1 to 1.5l of solids and liquids CARDIAC REGION Upper part of stomach where esophagus opens 2. FUNDUS
Small dome shaped structure 3. BODY Largest part of stomach 4. PYLORIC REGION It has two parts 1 Antrum 2 Pyloric canal Pyloric canal opens into first part of small intestine and duodenum
DIAGRAM
CELLS+ GASTRIC GLANDS Parietal cells or oxyntic cells Secrete HCl + intrinsic factor 2. Chief cells or peptic cells Secrete pepsinogen, rennin lipase , urase Mucus cells Mucin G cells stimulate parietal cells to secrete Hcl Enterochromaffin Cells (EC) secrete serotonin to inhibit the gastric acid secretion Enterochromaffin like Cells (ECC) secrete histamine stimulate the parietal cells to produce the gastric acid for digestion
PHASES Of GASTRIC SECRETION Cephalic Phase Before entering food in stomach the secretion GIT starts called cephalic Phase of gastric secretion The cephalic Phase of gastric secretion occurs before food enters the stomach it results from sight, smell thought or taste of food Gastric phase secretion of gastric juice when food enters into the stomach is called gastric phase It is regulate by hormonal control and nervou Intertinal Phase presence of chyme in intestine secrete gastric juice Nervous also hormonal Rennie digestion of milk
COMPONENTS OF GASTRIC SECRETION Gastric juice have 99.5 percent water And solid 0.5 percent Divided into two substances Organic substances pepsin Rennin(in animals only) Gastric lipase Urease Intrinsic factors mucus
Inorganic substances Na Ca K Bicarbonate Cl Phosphate Hcl
FUNCTIONS OF GASTRIC SECRETION It binds B12 for absorption Hcl kills the bacteria converts pepsinogen into pepsin gastric lipase_ lipid digestion Lysozyme_ immunity Parasympathetic_ increase the secretion Sympathetic_ decrease the secretion ph 1.5 to 2.0 Histamin , acetylcholine, gastrin also increase HCl secretion
