MUSCLES OF THE HAND BY: MISS OKEKE PRECIOUS OLUCHI ANATOMY PRESENTATION

TYPES OF MUSCLES OF THE HAND WE HAVE THE : Intrinsic hand muscles Extrinsic hand muscles

INTRINSIC HAND MUSCLES Intrinsic hand muscles: They originate from the hand and they don’t have a lot of power but they have alot of dexterity ( meaning:) . TYPES OF INTRINSIC HAND MUSCLES: Thenar muscles Hypothenar muscles Adductor pollics muscles Palmar interossei muscles Dorsal interossei muscles

THENAR MUSCLES These are muscles that act on the thumb. Types of the thenar muscles: Abductor pollicis brevis muscles Flexor pollicis brevis muscles Opponens pollicis muscles “All For One”

The innervation of this muscle is by the median nerve ; which course through the carpal tunnel and sends a branch backward called the recurrent branch of the median nerve. And this provides motor innervations of the thenar muscles.

HYPOTHENAR MUSCLES These are muscles that act on the pinki . We have the : Abductor digiti minimi Flexor digiti minimi muscles Opponens digiti minimi muscles The opponens digiti minimi muscles as the name implies : it opposes the pinki touching the thumb “ one for all”

For the hypothenar muscles the innervation is the ulna nerve and it transverse's the Gouyan’s canal and inters into the hand and gets innervation to the hypothenar muscles in the hand and skin

LUMBICALS MUSCLES They are four in number and they arise from the flexor digitorom profundus tendons. They come up so as to originate at the top of the hand also known as palmar surface. Lumbricals ( worm like) flexor digitorum profundus - profundus meaning deep “ if you dig deep you will find worms”

The lumbricals inserts on the extensorhood it flexes the mcp -muscle joint and extends the PIP joint and DIP joint

The median nerve course through the carpal tunnel and comes backward called the recurrent median nerve and articulates the 1 and 2 lumbrical muscles. The ulna nerve course through the gouyan’s canal and articulates the 3 and 4 muscle

ABDUCTOR POLLICE MUSCLE They have two heads: The tranverse head The obique head

DORSAL AND PALMAR INTEROSSEI MUSCLES INTEROSSEI- “ meaning between the bones”. They are found between the bones They both originate from the metacarpals and then insert on the extensor hood and proximal phalax PALMER INTEROSSEI MUSCLE PADs- it adducts

DORSAL INTEROSEI MUSCLES It abducts
