We will explore the constructional and
working differences between three
common types of power diodes: General
Purpose, Fast Recovery, and Schottky.
INTRODUCTION

GENERAL PURPOSE DIODE
Composed of a P-N junction with a single
semiconductor material.
CONSTRUCTION:
Designed for general rectification and switching
applications, with moderate switching speed.
WORKING:
APPLICATION:
Composed of a P-N junction with a single
semiconductor material.

FAST RECOVERY DIODE
Utilizes special epitaxial layers to reduce
recovery time.
CONSTRUCTION:
Designed for faster switching by minimizing
reverse recovery time.
WORKING:
APPLICATION:
Ideal for high-frequency applications, such as
switching power supplies and inverters.

SCHOTTKY DIODE
Combines a metal and semiconductor junction,
resulting in lower voltage drop.
CONSTRUCTION:
Offers very fast switching speed and lower
forward voltage drop.
WORKING:
APPLICATION:
Used in high-speed rectification, voltage
clamping, and high-frequency RF applications.
