THE 4 TH COMMANDMENT “ Honour your father and mother, that your days may be long in the land in which the Lord your God gives you”. (Exodus 20:13, Deuteronomy 5:16, CCC#2197 to #2257) The 4 th commandment is addressed expressly to children in their relationships with their fathers and mothers, because this relationships is the most universal. The 4 th commandment includes and presupposes the duties of parents, instructors, teachers, leaders, magistrates, those who govern and all those who exercise authority over others or over a community of persons. The 1 st vocation of the family is to follow Jesus(cf. Matt 10:37;16:25)and becoming a disciple of Jesus means accepting the invitation to belong to God`s family, to live in conformity with his way
Duties of Parents towards their children Provision of moral education. Provision of spiritual formation Respect for their children. Provision of physical & spiritual needs. Welcoming with joy the Lord’s call of any of their children into the priestly and religious life.
Duties of children towards their parents Respect for parents in words, deeds or actions [covering the nakedness of parents].
THE 5TH COMMANDMENT “You Shall not kill” (Exodus 20:13, Deuteronomy 5:17, CCC #2258 - CCC#2330) You have heard that it was said to the men of old, “You shall not kill: and whoever kills shall be liable to judgment”. But I say to you that every one who is angry with his brother shall be liable to judgment (Matthew 5:21 - 22)
The 5th commandment calls us to respect for the dignity of others and for human life - respect for the souls of others; avoiding scandal. - respect for the health of others. - respect for bodily integrity no kidnapping * no hostaging . * no terrorism
Sins against the 5th Commandment; Intentional Homicide Abortion Euthanasia Suicide (we are stewards & not owners of our life.)
THE 6TH COMMANDMENT “You shall not commit adultery.” (Exodus 10:14, Deuteronomy 5:18, CCC #2331 to #2400) You have heard that it was said, “You shall not commit adultery”. But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart (Matthew 5:27 - 28)
The 6th commandment calls us to the vocation of chastity. Chastity is the preservation of ourselves from anything profane for the glorification of God and for the sanctification of men.
Male and female, God created them and blessed them to multiply (Genesis 1:27 & 28) The Love of husband and wife must be established, nurtured, maintained and satisfactory. When these requirements are fulfilled between husband (male) and wife (female), it leads to unity, procreation and fidelity.
Some sins against the 6th commandment or the vocation to chastity are; * Adultery * Fornication * Lust * Masturbation * Watching pornography * Prostitution * Rape & Defilement *Lesbianism & Homosexuality (Gayism) * Bisexuality *Transgenderity * Queer & Asexuality
