AMELIA PHOCOMELIA HEMIMELIA IT IS THE COMPLETE ABSENCE OF ONE OR MORE LIMBS .IT IS A CONGENITAL CONDITION. IT IS A RARE CONDITION WHICH CAUSES VERY SHORT LIMBS.IT IS A CONGENITAL DISORDER. IT IS THE TOTAL OR PARTIAL ABSENCE AFFECTING ONLY DISTAL HALF OF THE LIMB .IT IS A CONGENITAL CONDITION.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS IT IS A CONGENITAL CONDITION ( PRESENT BY BIRTH ) WHERE ONE LEG APPEARS TO BE SHORTER THAN OTHER LEG NO LIMBS AT ALL THE LIMB IS MUCH LARGER THAN THE NORMAL LIMB . THE LIMB IS MUCH SHORTER THAN THE NORMAL LIMB.
CAUSES The exact cause of this type of defect is not known. Conditions that affect the baby in the uterus as it grows. These include genetic abnormalities, growth restriction, and mechanical forces. Exposure by the mother to chemicals or viruses while pregnant Certain medicines Exposure to tobacco smoke
TREATMENT : There is no standard treatment for a congenital limb defect. Treatment choices may include: Artificial limbs (prosthetics) Splints or braces (orthotics) Surgery Rehabilitation, such as physical or occupational therapy
