2. GLOBAL C I TY A global city is a city that has a significant influence on the global economic, cultural, and political landscape These cities are typically centers of international finance, business, and trade, and they often serve as hubs for transportation and communication networks.

3. The role of World Cities stems from the power within the globalized world economy . This position gives varying degrees of economic and cultural authority to cities, which can be described as "nodal points" in a global system. They also act as gateways between the global and local regional hinterlands

The term has its origins in research on cities carried out during the 1980s, which examined the common characteristics of the world's most important cities. In addition, it drew up a list for Potential cities: High Potential – 3 points. Medium potential – 2 points. Low potential – 1 point.

They have positive immigration rates and tend to host citizens of very different cultures and origins.
