GLOBALIZATION & WATER POLLUTION Prepared by: layog , mangurum , derilo , dinampo & romulo

OVERVIEW OF   THE PROBLEM Globalization is extending the scope of public policy beyond national borders and public policy is increasingly becoming influenced by global conditions. The causes of public policy problems can often lie far beyond a country's boundaries, leaving a nation to deal only the symptoms of a problem that lie within its decision-making power. This can easily be seen with transboundary water issues.   Environmental issues are becoming more and more problematic for developing nations. Increasing pollution, hazardous and increasingly endangered water sources, resource depletion, population growth, and waste management are only a few examples. Particularly among the poor, who rely heavily on the environment for their survival, these environmental factors are a major contributor to death, illness, and disability. Given their ties to results in health, education, and productivity, threats to drinking water are undoubtedly one of the most important environmental concerns in emerging economies. This acceleration is due to emerging technologies (particularly information and communication), deepening worldwide acceptance of markets, and increasing free-trade activity. Globalization can be viewed as the intensification of worldwide social relations, which link distant localities in such a way that local happenings are shaped by events occurring many kilometers away, and vice versa. Nations, international institutions, corporations, and individuals all are affected. GLOBALIZATION & WATER POLLUTION Rubbish and faecal  water dumping. In both urban and rural areas, these items sometimes are illegally dumped directly into a waterbody or wetland, or deposited along riverbanks or lakeshores. Fuel spillages The transportation and storage of oil and its derivatives is subject to leakage that pollutes our water resources. Maritime traffic Much of the plastic pollution in the ocean comes from fishing boats, tankers and cargo shipping Deforestation Felling forests can exhaust water resources and generate organic residue which becomes a breeding ground for harmful bacteria.
