Glycosylated Hemoglobin (HbA1c) Test

What is Dual marker test?
●Dual marker test is also known as Double Marker Test
●This test measures the levels of two hormones
○Beta Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (Beta HCG) and
○Pregnancy Associated Plasma Protein (PAPP-A) in blood

●HbA1c test is also known as glycosylated hemoglobin test.
●Glycosylated hemoglobin refers to the hemoglobin which is
bound to glucose. It reflects the average blood glucose levels
over a period of past two to three months.
●This test is done to measure the percentage of glycosylated
hemoglobin in blood.
What is HbA1c test?

Why is HbA1c test done?
The HbA1c test is done to:
●Screen for diabetes mellitus as part of regular health checkup
and in patients with high risk of developing diabetes
●Diagnose and confirm diabetes in combination with other tests
if blood sugar levels are high over a long period of time
●Monitor the efficacy of the treatment of diabetes by measuring
it on regular intervals

How is HbA1c test done?
•HbA1c test is done on a
blood sample.
•A syringe attached to a fine
needle is used to withdraw
the blood from a vein of
your arm.

●Less than 5.7% HbA1c indicates normal levels of blood sugar.

●Increased risk of developing Diabetes is found in Prediabetic
patients with blood sugar level between 5.7% and 6.4%.
●Patients with a HbA1c level greater than 6.5% are usually
diagnosed with Diabetes.
