“If you know what you want— !
if you can state it clearly, the !
universe will move in your direction.” !
!!—Goethe!
Most of us identify dreams and
desires only in the vaguest terms
& hope someday to achieve them.!
!!!!!
Unfortunately, many dreams &
goals die from lack of detail.!
Four traps emerge when you’re
generating sub-goals or an action
plan:!
You may become overwhelmed,!
Your thoughts spill over into
scarcity,!
You believe you are undeserving,!
You may feel your dreams are
insignificant.!
Attention to, or avoidance of, going for
detail indicates how serious you are
about your desires & goals. This is
where your fear of success/failure
creeps in.!
Scarcity—an expression of fear (either
success or failure) is the mind’s
interpretation of the experience of
limitation.!
Focus on your intentions, !
not your doubts and fears.!
In addition, it’s easiest to assume no
time is available for detail work.
This signals resistance. Taking time
to create detail signals your
willingness to move forward.!
Once we choose a goal, problems and
obstacles rise to the surface,
screaming for attention. Out of habit
many of us hover over the size and
complexity of the challenges we face
in reaching our goal, lamenting
about what isn’t working.!
Remember, !
focus on your intentions, !
not your fears.!
1. Choose a goal.!
2. Draw a circle in the middle of a
plain piece of paper.!
3. Write your goal in the center.!
4. On lines radiating from the
center, generate as many details
as you can without concern for
order.!
Creating a structure of detail helps you
clarify what lies ahead as you move
forward. !
Prioritizing is helpful when you’re not
sure about the timeline. Look at your
list of details and determine which is
first one you’ll work on, then second,
third, etc.!
Most plans require some wiggle room;
be prepared to adapt and make !
changes where necessary. !
If you’re too inflexible, you’ll spend lots
of energy agonizing about what you
did wrong when things don’t turn out
as planned.!
Rather than feeling stopped or blocked
in your progress, remain open, curious,
and investigative.!
Any barriers in your pathway, any
resistors, any seemingly
insurmountable obstacles you
encounter contain hidden
information and opportunity.!
You get to choose: You can discipline
yourself to write down and pursue
what you want or you can just get
what is handed to you . . .!
By working on paper within the
structure of a word map, diagram,
chart, or timeline, you can determine
the pace of your progress.!
One participant wrote: “Writing the
details helped me transfer things out
of my brain where they tend to fester.
It takes my dreams to the next step.”!
We can leave this life with goals
and dreams accomplished or we
can leave with all the reasons,
excuses, rationalizations, analyses,
& judgments about why they
didn’t turn out.!
“We live in an expanding universe,
a universe of plenty, not scarcity.
Our awareness of this fact can
radically alter all of our
experiences and actions.”!
