Essential Question : What happens when cultures collide? I Do (Explain) 5 minutes Themes are often developed through key events that happen in a story. Think about moments where characters face important decisions, overcome obstacles, or learn something new. These events help shape the theme by showing how characters grow, what they value, and how they interact with the world around them. For example, in a story about friendship, key events like standing up for a friend in a difficult situation or helping them during a hard time will develop the theme by highlighting the strength and loyalty in relationships. By looking at these events, we can figure out what the author is trying to say about the value of friendship. As you read, pay attention to how these events unfold, and think about how they help develop the bigger message or theme the author wants you to understand.
