Comparing, Arranging and Rounding Decimal Numbers to the Nearest Whole Number and Tenths

Using the number line, observe how the decimal number rounded of to the nearest tenths and nearest whole number . By looking at the number line you will noticed that 1.36 is still nearest to number 2 than number 3 1 1.36 2

EXAMPLE 1: Round off 9.14 to the nearest whole number. Solution: 9.14 9 is the whole number to be rounded off 1 is nearest to 9(whole number), but it is less than 5, so round down 1 to zero then ignore 6. Maintain 9 which is the whole number. 9

EXAMPLE 2: Round off 25.56 to the nearest tenths Solution: 25.56 5 is the tenths to be rounded off 6 is the nearest 5(tenths), and 6 is greater than 5 so round up 5 to then ignore 6 or rest of the digit 25.6

What did you do to make your body healthy and physically fit? What benefits can you get from jogging? Do you exercise? How often? Do you jog?

Jeffrey and Ricky jog regularly. One morning, Jeffrey jogged kilometer while Ricky jogged kilometer. How much farther did Jeffrey jog than Ricky?

Who jogs regularly? What part of a kilometer did Jeffrey jog one morning? What about Ricky? What does the problem ask you to find? How will you solve for the answer to the problem?

How did you find the activity? How were you able to solve for the answer to the problem?

One Sunday morning, Mark and his friends went to church. After the service, they decided to have their snacks at Foodman , La Carlota. They bought a cake. They divided the cake into 6 equal parts. They ate and brought the rest. What part of the cake did they bring home?   -     = ÷   =

Subtract similar fractions. 1.   -   = 2.   -   = 3.   -   = 4.   -   = 5.   -   =

How do we visualize subtraction of fractions? In visualizing the difference of similar fractions, we may use a fraction chart, regions, or a number line.

Group Activity

Joseph and his mother bought a cassava delight near Sitio Bucalan . They divided the cassava delight into eight equal parts. They ate and brought home the rest. What part of the cassava cake did they bring home?   Group 1= Role Play that shows your answer Group 2= Draw a region to show your answer Group 3= Create and sing a song to show your answer Group 4= Create dance steps to show your answer

Are you ready?

Visualize the following fractions. Then subtract. Choose the letter of your answer. Reduce your answer to lowest term if possible. 1) - = N   2) - =N   3) - =N   a. b. c. a. b. c. a. b. c.

4) - =N   5) - =N   Show the fractional parts of the given fractions. Then subtract. Choose the letter of your answer. Reduce your answer to lowest term if possible. a. b. c. a. b. c.
