CCc ART. 731
On the day of Pentecost when the
seven weeks of Easter had come to an
end, Christ’s Passover is fulfilled in the
outpouring of the Holy Spirit,
manifested, given, and
communicated as a divine person: of
his fullness, Christ, the Lord, pours the
spirit in abundance.
PENTECOST
The birth of the church
The birth of the church did
not happen in one simple
event or moment. Three
distinct events stand out, two
in the Gospels and another in
the Acts of the Apostles.
Gospel of matthew
Where we can find the
appointment of Peter
as Head of the Church.
When Jesus came to the
neighborhood of Caesarea Philippi,
he asked his disciples, “ who do
people say the Son of Man is?”
Some say, John the Baptist, others
Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of
the prophets.
When Jesus asked Peter , “ Who do
you say I am?
“ You are the messiah,” Simon
answered, “ the Son of the Living
God.”
By this event, Jesus declared Simon
son of Jonah as “Peter” (ROCK)
Gospel of john
Recounts the events
when Jesus entrusted
the church to the
apostle first, then to
Peter.
Jesus commands Peter, “ Feed my
Lambs”. This means that He wants
him to be the shepherd of the
Christian community. To be a
shepherd means to take care of the
Christian community and to attend
to spiritual and other needs
