Factual Sprint: Fact or Bluff Relay Challenge
Each team will send one player at a time to run to the designated area with the fact and bluff cards. The player will choose one card, read the statement aloud to their team, and decide if it's fact or bluff. If they think it's true, they will place it in the fact pile; if it's bluff, they will place it in the bluff pile. Once the player has sorted their card, the next player in line from the same team runs to get the next card. The team that finishes sorting their cards in 2 minutes or less will be the winner . Have you enjoyed our activities?
What do you think is the relationship of this activity to our lesson? Why is it important to study fact and opinion ?
A t the end of the lesson, students must be able to:
a. define fact and opinion;
b. create a statement about fact and opinion;
c. participate actively and collaboratively in class discussion.
A fact is a statement that can be verified. A fact is a specific detail that can be proven as true based on objective evidence. Objective proof can be one or more of the following: physical evidence, an eyewitness account, or the result of an accepted scientific method.
Fact is universal, and not debatable but has a power to influence.
T he Philippines was colonized by Spain for over 300 years.
Evidence: Historical records document the arrival of Spanish explorers in the 16th century, the establishment of Spanish settlements, the introduction of Christianity, and the enduring influence of Spanish culture evident in Filipino surnames, language, religion, and architecture.
Plants use sunlight to make their own food through a process called photosynthesis.
Evidence: This is a fundamental concept in biology that has been observed and studied extensively. Researchers have conducted experiments showing how plants convert light energy into chemical energy, which they use for growth and development.
Fact: Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world, with a peak elevation of 29,032 feet (8,848 meters) above sea level. Evidence: This fact is supported by precise measurements conducted by various survey teams and confirmed by satellite technology.
The blue whale holds the record for being the largest animal known to have ever existed. It can reach lengths of up to 100 feet (30 meters) or more and can weigh as much as 200 tons or more.
An opinion is a feeling, judgment, belief, o r conclusion that cannot be proven true by objective evidence. A belief or judgement about something.
Varies from the person to the next, debatable and has power to influence.
I think it's important to acknowledge the impact Spanish colonization had on the Philippines. I believe it's fascinating how plants can make their own food using sunlight. It's a remarkable process that sustains life on Earth.
I agree that Mount Everest is incredibly high! I find it incredible that the blue whale is the biggest animal ever known. Its size is truly remarkable.
Facts can be proven. Opinions cannot be proven.
