Purpose of the Assessment
The purpose of this formative assessment is to assess students’ ability to:
- Understand and apply the formal letter writing format as per IGCSE standards.
- Use a formal tone and structure to express an apology appropriately.
- Organize ideas clearly and logically in paragraph form.
- Demonstrate accuracy in grammar, punctuation, and presentation.
Task
Students are required to write a formal letter of apology addressed to Ms. Moulee, the Middle
School Coordinator, apologizing for something they believe they have done wrong. This may
relate to behaviour, uniform, punctuality, or any school policy they may have failed to follow.
The letter should:
- Clearly state what they are apologizing for.
- Briefly explain the reason or situation.
- Take responsibility and express regret.
- Give assurance that it will not happen again.
