Gray baby syndrome

It is type a disorder which is generally caused new born baby or infants.
A drug antibiotic which is responsible for causing gray patches on body that’s by called gray baby syndrome

2. INTRODUCTION- It is a circulatory collapse that can occur in premature and new born infants. It is a rare disorder that is caused due to presense of high level of Chloramphenicol in babies born prematurely.

3. Causes of gray baby syndrome- The primary cause is the accumulation of the antibiotic chloramphenicol. Blood serum level of chloramphenicol higher than per 50mg/ml is assosiated with Gray Baby Syndrome.

4. DEFICIENCY IN NEONATES The immature liver may not able to met New born kidney are not efficient enough to excrete. Chloramphenicol and it’s metabolic product from the body abolize the Chloramphenicol

5. SYMPTOMS- POOR FEEDING WEAKNESS VOMITTING PALE APPEARANCE ABDOMINAL DISTENTION

7. Diagnosis of gray baby syndrome Diagnosis of the gray baby syndrome can be made from the ashen–gray appearance of the skin along with the history of exposure to chloramphenicol in babies Blood tests CT scan ECG(Electrocardiography)

8. Treatment Of Gray Baby Syndrome t he treatment for gray baby syndrome is intensive support therapy with the withdrawal of chloramphenicol . They may receive appropriate oxygen therapy, ventilation & early intubation depending upon the requirement Activate charcoal Hemoperfusion. Exchange transfusion .
