There are six styles of business
letter; Indented or British style, Full-
Block or American Style,Semi-Block
Style, Modified-Block Style,
Simplified Style, Hanging-Indented
Style. The popular of letter styles and
simple are Indented and Block
styles.

INDENTED STYLE/Semi-Block Style
The inside address is indented and closed
punctuation is used. Every new paragraph is indented
five spaces. The complimentary close is placed far
enough to the left to give room to the closing line.
None of the final lines projects into the right margin.
Double spacing is used among paragraph.
One distinguished thing for this form is that each new
paragraph is clearly separated by indentation, but it
gives some difficulty to typists and stenographers in
adjusting the left margin because of the indentations.
Feels slightly more traditional and is less common
today but still acceptable.

Full Block Style
There is no indentations used in this style.
Everything is flush left, saving time and
energy in typing. Open punctuation is used
in the inside address.
Everything—sender’s address, date,
recipient’s address, salutation, body,
closing, and signature—is aligned to the left
margin.
No indentation for paragraphs; single-
spaced with a blank line between
paragraphs.
Looks clean and modern, widely used for its
simplicity.

MODIFIED BLOCK STYLE
The sender’s address, date, and
closing (e.g., "Sincerely") are aligned
to the right or centered, while the
recipient’s address, salutation, and
body are left-aligned.
Paragraphs may or may not be
indented (typically not).
Strikes a balance between formal
and traditional without being as
rigid as full block.

Simplified Style
A streamlined version of
full block: everything is
left-aligned, but it skips the
salutation and closing (e.g.,
no "Dear" or "Sincerely").
Often uses a subject line

Direct and efficient, used
for less formal or routine
correspondence.
