heritage, and communities. To support conservation and avoid legal issues, travelers must not
purchase, collect, or attempt to export illegal souvenirs.

•Crocodile skin products (bags, belts, shoes) without permits
•Reptile skins and derivatives (snakes, lizards)
2. Bushmeat & Animal Parts
•Any bushmeat (antelope, primates, pangolins, etc.)
•Dried animal skins or hides from protected species
•Feathers or body parts of endangered birds (e.g., grey crowned crane, shoebill stork)
•Gorilla, chimpanzee, or monkey bones/hands (illegal and taboo)
3. Plant Products (Threatened Flora)

•Wild-harvested medicinal plants and roots from protected species
4. Cultural & Sensitive Items

•Items taken from archaeological sites, caves, or heritage locations without permits
Important Notes for Travelers
•Buying these items is illegal under Ugandan law and CITES international trade
agreements.
•Penalties include fines, confiscation, imprisonment, and confiscation at airports.
•Purchasing such products fuels poaching, deforestation, and cultural exploitation.
Responsible Alternatives
Instead of harmful souvenirs, support Uganda’s communities by purchasing:
•Barkcloth products (UNESCO heritage material)
•Banana-fiber art and woven items
•Recycled jewelry and crafts
•Wood carvings from sustainable sources
•Handmade baskets, mats, and textiles
Our Commitment
By following these guidelines, you help protect Uganda’s wildlife, forests, and cultural heritage
while ensuring your safari leaves a positive legacy. Responsible choices not only preserve the beauty of
Uganda for future generations but also empower local artisans and communities.
