Harvesting

After patiently taking care of the vegetable plants, harvesting time is the most awaited time of the farmers. It is important to know the right and proper ways in harvesting particular plants that will be sold in the market. They need to stay in shape, smooth, and fresh. Products in these conditions can certainly be sold in no time.

These are signs that you can look for to know if the plants are ready to be harvested. 1. Leafy vegetables like bokchoy, mustard, and lettuce must be harvested when their leaves are already wide. Do not let these plants to bloom flowers before you harvest them.

2. Root crops are harvested after. These are harvested two months before root crops reach their size. Sitaw, patani, and bataw are harvested when their seeds are still small.

You need a big basket like tiklis in harvesting a lot of vegetables. Have a system in harvesting. Harvest in one direction to avoid missing any crop. It is suggested to harvest crops in the morning and afternoon wherein the heat and sunlight are not extreme. Root crops like gabe and ube are kept under the sun for them to dry. Remove the soil in the crops before bringing them to the market.

Keep the crops in a cool and dry place for them to stay fresh. Let them have proper ventilation but keep them away from animals and insects. Products to be sold must be free from scratches, have the same size, and in proper shape. Remove the crops with defect. Do not mix them with the fresh ones.
