11. Activity 1. Sine Mo To Needed Actors: Aling Puring Mang Jose Mang Kepweng Ms. Miles Dr. Wong

12. Aling Puring has been sick for three days. She cannot eat well and is unable to do house chores since she just rests on the bed for days. Her lower abdomen makes her uncomfortable to pee and stand straight and walk. Scene 1

13. Her husband Mang Jose decided to bring her to the nearest “albularyo” Mang Kepweng in their barangay. Scene 2

14. Mang Kepweng performs a series of procedures believing that these would eventually heal the sick Aling Puring. He also mentions that the cure of Aling Puring depends on how she believes in miracles. Scene 3

15. Days pass by and Aling Puring does not get well. The local barangay health worker Ms. Miles intervened in the family offering them to bring Aling Puring to the city hospital. Scene 4

16. Eventually, Aling Puring is diagnosed with have severe urinary tract infection by Dr. Wong and if not rushed to the hospital would have more serious health complications. Scene 5

22. -Mang Kepweng is considered as a Quack. -Quack is a person or individual who dishonestly claims to have special knowledge and skill in some field, typically medicine.

23. -What do you think are the reasons why people went to quack doctors?

24. -People go to quack in times of great stress, pain, or sorrow . In the absence of exact knowledge , and sometimes even in its presence in the face of impossible difficulties , people crave a miracle and are ready to be overwhelmed by the personality and the claims of the fraud. 25. Another reason why Filipinos Fall for quack is because of our Culture . Filipino culture believes in spirits and supernatural things. “Some of them depend on their health problems for something spiritual and cultural. When the health of a family member is at risk, the urban poor seek traditional healing ” (Salenga, 2012).

26. According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, the top causes of death in the Philippines were as follows: 1.Heart Diseases 2.Cerebrovascular diseases (Stroke) 3.Cancers 4.Diabetes 5.Pneumonia (Lung Diseases) 6.Genitourinary system (Urinary Tract, Bladder, Kidneys)
