Definition According to WHO Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity Williams – Health is the quality of life that enables the individual to live most and serve best

Meaning Education of health and for health Knowing about the health rules and then taking care of health It puts stress on the maintenance of a healthy environment in the institution Makes the pupils health conscious, inculcate in them good health habits and gives knowledge about the rules of healthy living

T.D.Woad – Sum of all experiences in school and elsewhere that favourably influence habits, attitudes and knowledge related to individual, social and community health

Health Education is transmission of what is known about health into desirable individual, family and community behaviour patterns by means of educational processes

Need To replace ignorance by knowledge, remove prejudices Bring about changes in beliefs and attitudes – positively tuned to health Progress of our country – made of youth – well built and robust in health Health of a family, community or a nation is ultimately determined by the health of individual members Health and hygiene - emphasized
