INTRODUCTION OF HIPAA: HIPPA is the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act enacted in 1996. It is a Privacy rule which provides security provisions and data privacy, in order to keep patient’s medical information safe. Health providers and health plans are legally required to follow this act, which includes protecting the privacy of health records and information contained in a patient’s file.
HIPAA CONSIST OF: Standardized Electronic Data Interchange transactions and codes for all covered entities. Standards for security of data systems. Privacy protections for individual health information. Standard national identifiers for health care .
HIPAA IS created.? In 2000, many patients that were newly diagnosed with depression received free samples of antidepressant medications in their mail. This left patients wondering how the pharmaceutical companies were notified of their disease. After a long and thorough investigation, the Physician, the Pharmaceutical company and a well-known pharmacy chain were all indicted on breach of confidentiality charges . This is one of the many reasons the Federal Government needed to step in and create guidelines to protect patient privacy.
Rules of HIPAA: There are some following rule of HIPAA 1.HIPAA Privacy Rule: HIPAA Privacy is securing, protecting and maintaining the confidentiality of the patients data. The all documents should be created, received, or maintained by a health care provider or health plan AND. It should be in Written, Spoken, or Electronic.
2.HIPAA Security Rule: HIPAA Security is the methods, tools, strategy and process that is used to ensure the privacy. Covers safeguard requirements. Requires organization to secure all Electronic Protected Health Information (EPHI) HIPAA security is promise the protecting people, their Assets and Reputation. It‘s provide Confidentiality, integrity and availability to authorized users for access to information and associated assets when required.
3.Transaction Rule: Transactions and code set rules permit information exchange from computer to computer without any human intervention. 4.Breach Notifications Rule: HIPAA's Breach Notification Rule requires covered entities to notify patients when their unsecured protected heath information (PHI) is impermissibly used or disclosed or breached.

Right to have their name withheld from our patient directories. Right to request that individuals are not told of their presence in our facilities
HIPAA Patients Right: HIPAA guarantees several rights to patients: Right to privacy. Right to confidential use of their health information for their treatment, billing process, and other health care operations (such as quality improvement) Right to access and amend their health information upon request Right to provide specific authorization for use of their health information other than for treatment, billing and other health care operations .
