WHAT IS A CONSUMER? A consumer is a person or a group who intends to order,
or use purchased goods, products, or services primarily
for personal, social, family, household and similar
needs, who is not directly related to entrepreneurial or
business activities. The term most commonly refers to a
person who purchases goods and services for personal
use.
CONSUMER ACT OF THE PHILIPPINES (RA 7394) Republic Act No. 7394 or the Consumer Act of the
Philippines has three objectives (Galvez Tan, et al., 2009):
1. Protect the interest of the consumer
2. Promote his/her general welfare
3. Establish standards of conduct for business and industry.
In connection with the Consumer Act,
The Consumer Act covers the quality and
safety of different products like food, drugs,
cosmetics, and devices. The policy also
promotes the protection of citizens against
hazardous substances that may be on sale.
Hence, proper labeling and fair packaging
shall be required for all the products being
sold.
Traditional and Alternative
Medicine Act of 1997 (RA 8423)
It is an act creating the Philippine Institute of
Traditional and Alternative Health Care (PITAHC) to
accelerate the development of traditional and
alternative nealth care in the Philippines, providing
for a traditional and alternative healt) are
