PROCEDURE: Place a spoon in a hot water and ask students to predict what will happen. Let students touch the spoon (safely) and feel the heat transfer from the spoon to their hands. Processing Questions: 1.What did you observe/ experience? 2.What makes some objects feel hotter than others? 3.How does heat travel? ACTIVITY TIME!
HEAT TOPIC 5
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to; a. Differentiate between heat and temperature using everyday examples; b. Explain the effects of heat on materials (e.g., expansion, change of state); c. Describe the three methods of heat transfer (conduction, convection, and radiation); and d. Relate heat transfer concepts to real-life situations like global warming and thermal insulation. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
TEMPERATURE VS. HEAT HEAT TEMPERATURE IT IS THE ENERGY TRANSFERRED FROM ONE OBJECT TO ANTHER DUE TO THEIR DIFFERENCE IN TEMPERATURE. IT IS THE QUANTITY THAT INDICATES THE HOTNESS OR COLDNESS OF A SUBSTANCE.
TEMPERATURE IT IS THE QUANTITY THAT INDICATES THE HOTNESS OR COLDNESS OF A SUBSTANCE . IN AN ATOMIC OR MOLECULAR LEVEL, TEMPERATURE IS RELATED TO THE RANDOM MOTION OF ATOMS AND MOLECULES OF A SUBSTANCE . THE AVERAGE LINEAR KINETIC ENERGY DUE TO MOTION OF MOLECULES AND ATOMS IS PROPORTIONAL TO THE TEMPERATURE OF A SUBSTANCE .
TEMPERATURE MEANING, AS THE MOLECULAR MOTION INCREASES, THE AVERAGE LINEAR KINETIC ENERGY ALSO INCREASES. THUS, TEMPERATURE OF A SUBSTANCE INCREASES.

“SPOON IN A HOT WATER” The spoon absorbs heat from the hot coffee. ENERGY TRANSFERRED FROM ONE OBJECT TO ANOTHER . HEAT ALWAYS FLOWS FROM AN OBJECT WITH HIGHER TEMPERATURE TO LOWER TEMPERATURE . HEAT
“ICE CUBES IN A GLASS OF WATER” The water releases heat to ice. ENERGY TRANSFERRED FROM ONE OBJECT TO ANOTHER . HEAT ALWAYS FLOWS FROM AN OBJECT WITH HIGHER TEMPERATURE TO LOWER TEMPERATURE . HEAT
EFFECT OF HEAT ON MATERIALS
Thermal Expansion When heat is added to a material, the material expands . On the other hand, a material contracts when heat is removed from it. EFFECT OF HEAT ON MATERIALS

HEAT TRANSFER
HEAT TRANSFER Conduction- Requires direct physical contact between materials. Convection - Hot fluid rises and cold fluid sinks , creating a circulation pattern that transfers heat. Radiation -I nvolves the emission of electromagnetic waves , primarily in the infrared spectrum. These waves carry energy that can be absorbed by other materials, increasing their temperature. It does not require any medium (can occur in a vacuum).
1. How does knowledge of heat transfer help us choose appropriate clothing for different weather conditions? 2. What are some examples of everyday situations where we use heat transfer concepts to stay comfortable? 3. Why is it important to understand how heat transfer contributes to climate change, and what responsibilities do we have as individuals? LET US REFLECT
How global warming is influenced by the greenhouse effect (radiation). Write a short paragraph explaining the role of heat in this environmental issue. ACTIVITY
