Slide Content

The Hip Bone ( श्रोणिफलकास्थि ) ilium & its attachments

Hip Bone Anterior View Anatomical Position Hip Bone

Intro : Also called as innominate bone Articulation : Head of Femur Pubis of the another hip bone Sacrum Side Determination : Acetabulum directed laterally Ilum , fan like expanded part superiorly Obturator foramen lies below below acetabulum

Ossification Primary(3) Ilium : above greater sciatic notch in 8 th week Ischium : below acetabulum in 4 th month Pubis : in the superior ramus in 4 th or 5 th month Secondary (5) Appear at puberty and fuse with rest of the bones

Pubis The Hip Bone is a composite of 3 bones Pubis

Pubis Ischium The Hip Bone is a composite of 3 bones Pubis Ischium

Pubis Ischium Ilium The Hip Bone is a composite of 3 bones Pubis Ischium Ilium

These three bones meet within the Acetabulum Acetabulum (Latin for Vinegar Cup) Pubis Ischium Ilium

During development they are separated from each other by the Triradiate Cartilage

During development they are separated from each other by the Triradiate Cartilage

ILIUM 2 Ends Upper Lower 3 borders Anterior border Posterior border Medial border 3 surfaces Gluteal Surface Iliac Surface or Iliac fossa Sacropelvic surface

Posterolateral view of the right Hip Bone Borders

Posterolateral view of the right Hip Bone Anterior Border Extends from ant.sup.iliac spine to acetabulum

Posterolateral view of the right Hip Bone Posterior Border Extends form posterior superior iliac spine to to upper end of posterior border of ischium Shows the presence of greater sciatic notch & post.inf.iliac spine

Extends form iliac crest to iliopubic eminence Medial Border

1) Sacro Pelvic Surface Surfaces of ilium

It is divided into 3 parts : Iliac Tuberosity Auricular Surface Pelvic Surface A rough groove called periauricular sulcus is usually fund in this area it is more deeper in females

The Auricular Facet Articulates with the Sacrum at the Sacroiliac Joint

2) Iliac Fossa

The Iliac Fossa provides attachment for Iliacus which inserts onto the Lesser Trochanter of the Femur *Iliacus flexes the Hip Joint

Posterolateral view of the Hip Bone Gluteal or Posterolateral surface Outer surface of ilium constitutes the gluteal surface Marked by 3 ridges or lines

Posterior Gluteal Line Anterior Gluteal Line Inferior Gluteal Line

Posterolateral view of the Hip Bone Landmarks on Posterolateral Surface

Ilium Body of the Ilium

Ala of Ilium

Iliac Crest

Iliac Crest Runs from Anterior Superior Iliac Spine

Iliac Crest Runs from Anterior Superior Iliac Spine to the Posterior Superior Iliac Spine

Iliac Crest Below the Posterior Superior Iliac Spine is the Posterior Inferior Iliac Spine

Iliac Crest The Anterior Inferior Iliac Spine is below the Anterior Superior Iliac Spine
