Describe the general characteristics and functions of nervous
dEFINITION A tissue is a group of cells, many tissues combine to form an organ. A tissue is a group of cells with same embryonic origin working together to perform a specific function.
Cell junction Cell junctions are points of contact between adjacent plasma membrane .There are various types namely; Tight junction ( Which are fluid tight seat) Anchoring junctions ( Fasten cell to one another) Communicating junction (Permits electrical and chemical signals to be transmitted between cells)
General functions of tissues There are five general characteristics of tissues namely ; SECRETION STRENGHT EXCRATION COMMUNICATION MOVEMENT
Structure of epithelia tissues
Epithelia tissue These are cells attached to a basement membrane that covers the exterior surfaces of the body e.g. skin They form glands They are avascular and innervated
Classification of epithelium They are classified base on Shape (Squamous, Cuboidal, and Columnar) They are classified base on Cell Arrangement (Simple and Stratified epithelium )
CONNECTIVE TISSUES Connective tissue is abundant and it makes up part of every organ in the body Is different from the other three types in that Tissue Structure is diverse Connective tissues also performs variety of important function
FUNCTIONS OF CONNECTIVE TISSUES Enclosing and separating organs Connecting tissues to another (ligaments and tendon) Supporting and movement (joints and cartilage) Storing (adipose tissues and bones) Protection (Cranium and sternum)
The nervous tissue Definition ; Nervous tissues are tissues found in the Brain ,Spinal cord and the nerves which is responsible for coordination and controlling of many body activity Nerves are cells that generate and conduct impulses
Structure of the nervous tissue (the neuron)
General function of the nervous tissues Neurons generate and carry nerve impulses They produce electrical signals that are across distances, they do so by secreting chemical neurotransmitters The nervous tissues responds to stimuli They provide electrical insulations to nerve cells and removes debris They carry messages from other neurons to the cell body
Muscular tissue Muscular tissues is composed of cells that have the special ability to shorten or contract in order to produce movement of the body parts The tissue is highly cellular and is well supplied with blood vessels
STRUCTURE OF MUSCULAR TISSUES
Types of muscle tissues Skeletal muscle tissue (the specialised tissue that is attached to the bone and allow movement ) Smooth muscle tissue (located in various internal including the digestive tract, uterus and blood vessels such as arteries) Cardiac muscle tissue (The muscle specific to the heart.)
Functions of muscle tissues The five main functions of muscle tissue are Movement (skeletal muscles pull on the bones causing movement at joints) Support (Muscle of the body wall support the internal organs) Protection Heat generation Blood circulation
