HISTORY OF COMPUTER - Presented By :- Ms. Ujjwala Vijay Gavade
GENERATION OF COMPUTERS :- First Generation Computer (1946 to 1959) Second Generation Computer ( 1959-1965 ) Third Generation Computer ( 1965-1971 ) Fourth Generation Computer ( 1971-1980 )
First Generation Computer :- The period of first generation was from 1946-1959. The computers of first generation used vacuum tubes as the basic components for memory and circuitry for CPU (Central Processing Unit). These tubes, like electric bulbs, produced a lot of heat and the installations used to fuse frequently.
SECOND GENERATION COMPUTERS :- The period of second generation was from 1959-1965. In this generation, transistors were used that were cheaper, consumed less power, more compact in size, more reliable and faster than the first generation machines made of vacuum tubes. In this generation, magnetic cores were used as the primary memory and magnetic tape and magnetic disks as secondary storage devices.
THIRD GENERATION COMPUTER :- The period of third generation was from 1965-1971. The computers of third generation used Integrated Circuits (ICs) in place of transistors. A single IC has many transistors, resistors, and capacitors along with the associated circuitry.
FOURTH GENERATION OF COMPUTER :- The period of fourth generation was from 1971-1980 . Computers of fourth generation used Very Large Scale Integrated (VLSI) circuits. VLSI circuits having about 5000 transistors and other circuit elements with their associated circuits on a single chip made it possible to have microcomputers of fourth generation.
COMPUTER FUNDAMENTALS :- Computer is an electronic device which is use to store large amount of database and also it performs arithmetical and logical operations. Computer is divided into following Three Parts :- Hardware. Software. Users.
HARDWARE :- All physical things which we can see and touch and those things are necessary to get some results all those things are called as Hardware part of the system. EXAMPLE OF HARDWARE :- 1. In computer system keyboard, mouse, CPU, monitor are the hardware part of the computer. 2. In music system CD’s, DVD’s, speaker, music player are the Hardware parts of music system.
SOFTWARE :- All non-physical things which we can see but we can’t touch and those things are also very necessary to get some results all those things are called as Software part of the system. EXAMPLE OF HARDWARE :- In computer system all the programs are the examples of software part of computer system. In music system the music and electricity are the examples of software part of music system.
