Objectives 1.To describe the Evolution of Repertories.

A Repertory is an index where information is stored or classified or arranged systematically so that it can be used more adventitiously to reach the similimum in short time. This information can be collected in book form, card form , stripes, or in the form of software .

It allows the comparison and differentiation to be established between several remedies showing the same indications according to the degree of importance and modalities of the various remedies that are in the competition. Repertory m akes t h e very dry study of m ateria medica extre m ely interesting Repertories are useful in cases where there are lot of characteristic symptoms making confusion for preccribing proper similimum

After the discovery of law of similars , ie – with Cinchona bark experiment , Dr. Hahnemann started proving of different drugs on him and from this he collected large no: of symptoms in every drug. All these symptoms collected in books like “Materia Medica pura and chronic disease”. During his time approximately 100 drugs were proved. As remedies and proving multiplied it became problem to keep a track of all symptoms and master himself consciously felt the need for indexing the symptoms.

As old as history of homoeopathy it has s t arted with an appendix in 1805. Today it had grown to a system. GROWTH _ 3 STAGES Formative years : From Hahnemann to Kent Middle age : Kentian era Recent repertories : Software based / screen based

1805 → Fragmenta De Viribus Medica Mentorum Positivis sive in sano corpor Humano Observatis,, 1 st part – 27 remedies.., 2 nd part – 470 pages repertory, alphabetically arranged, remedies graded in single grade Second edition – repe r tory prepared by adding other drugs of which original is in possession of Dr. Richard Haehl, Stuttgart 1834 → Dr. Frederick Foster Harvey Quin edited 1 st part of the book and republished in Latin.

Preface – Dr. Hahnemann writes ‘no body known better than I do , how imperfect and insufficient it all is.’ But this work was the forerunner of his Materia medica pura. He wrote to his friend Dr.E.F. Ruckert that how useful it would be if a good alphabetical repertory once compiled. So he started arranging a repertory of the remedies which later on formed first part of Chronic disease. These works being constantly checked by Hanhemann, but it remain to manuscript form which is preserved in Archives at Hale‟s museum in Robert Bosch hospital at Stuttgart

In between Dr Hahnemann’s pupil - Dr.Gross compiled 2 volumes of Repertory, but not appeared in print . Another student Carl George Hartlaub produced Systematic Description of the pure effect of Remedies in 538 pages in 6 parts. According to Dr.P. Schimt this was the 1 st printed repertory produced in between 1826 to 28 Hahnemann employed Jahr for compiling a repertory and he wrote – “ If God permits ,Jahr will work out the symptom dictionary and I shall contribute what I can " .At that time Jahr was preparing for his final medical exam,so he could not afford much time for this work .

Dr.Boenninghausen started working for compilation of repertory under Hahnemann‟s instruction. 1832 → Repertory of Anti- psoric medicines published at Coppenrath, Munster with 256 pages which became the foundation stone for all the later repertories Dr . B o enninghausen is called as F a ther Of Repertory 2 nd edit i on - 1833 & Boger edited in 1900 52 remedies, 44 pages with 5 gradations
