History of Valentine day

This presentation include the story of valentine a priest in the past in the era of a king who band the military personal marriages and that person was as priest was assisting people in their marriages to make their lives more happier and joy able.

4. Valentine's Day is celebrated every year on the 14 th February. How do we celebrate it?

5. Valentine's Day was imported to North America in the 19 th century by British settlers. In the second half of the 20 th century, the practice of giving gifts along with paper-laced cards became popular. Roses, candies and chocolates are the most commonly exchanged Valentine's Day Gifts

6. Today, it is estimated that one billion Valentine cards are sent each year, 85% of which are sent by women. Valentine’s Day is mostly celebrated in the United States, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France and Australia

7. Valentine is the name of a person who lived long long ago. We don’t know exactly what he looked like but this is what he might have looked like.

8. This is the story of Valentine and how he became so special that he has a day named after him. Valentine lived over 1000 years ago. We don’t know if this story is true but some people think it is.

9. Long long ago their was an Emperor called Claudius. He lived in Rome in a big palace.

10. Claudius wanted lots of men to join his army and go and fight in different countries.

11. Most men did not want to fight wars because it meant leaving their wives and families.

12. This made Claudius very angry so he decided to make a new rule that people could not get married. He thought if men did not have wives and children then they would want to join his army.

13. Valentine was a priest. One of his jobs was to marry people. Even though Claudius had banned people from getting married, Valentine would marry people secretly – sometimes at night, whispering so no one would hear them.

14. Valentine was caught and sent to prison. Claudius said Valentine must be killed because he broke the law.

15. When people heard what had happened to Valentine they felt very sad. Some people threw flowers and notes up to his prison window.

16. One of the prison guards had a daughter. He let her visit Valentine. They talked for hours and became very good friends.

17. On the day that Valentine died. He sent a message to his friend thanking her for her friendship. He signed it ... from your Valentine. It was the 14 th February.

18. Now every year on 14 th February people send Valentine cards to people they love and care for. Sometimes they want it to be a secret so they sign it, From your Valentine

19. Cultures From Around The World Brazil In Brazil Valentines Day is celebrated on June 12 but is recognized as boyfriend/girlfriend day. This day was most likely chosen because it is the day before St. Anthony’s birthday which is known as the marriage saint. Many believe that they will find a spouse. Colombia In Colombia this day is recognized as Love/Friendship Day. It is celebrated on the 3 rd Friday & Saturday in September. Anonymous participants exchange gifts, “Secret Friend”. It is Celebrated on Nov. 11, but there is also a separate “Valentine’s Day” for those who are single, called Black Day it is celebrated on April 14. Denmark & Norway Known as Valentinsdag. Not greatly celebrated to the extent of the U.S. Couples usually just go out to dinner, or send their partner small gifts.
