Volleyball
-a sport that helps
improve your timing and
coordination.
It requires endurance,
flexibility, strength, agility and
power.

Volleyball
The term volley means
“to hit the ball while it is in the
air before it touches the
ground.”

Volleyball
is played by two teams
composed of six (6) players
each.
The players use their hands
and forearms to hit the ball back
and forth over the net.

HISTORY OF VOLLEYBALL
•The game volleyball was
invented and developed by
Dr. William G. Morgan in
1895at the Young Men’s
Christian Association
(YMCA) in Holyoke,
Massachusetts, USA.

•It was previously known as
mintonette.
•It was originally intended for
the old patrons of YMCA
since basketball was too
vigorous for them.

Volleyball Court

Volleyball Court
-has a width of
9 m and a length of
18m.
The center or
the middle line
divides the court into
two square halves
measuring 9mx9m.

Volleyball Court
-a net is placed
just above the center
line.
The attack line is
3m from the center line
or net on each line. It
divides the playing
area-the back courtand
front court.

PASSING AND RECEIVING
Passing and receiving are two
related skills in volleyball.
When you receive the ball, you
also get to pass it, either to a
teammate or over the net to the
opponents side of the court.

–It is used to receive a ball that is below

A serviceis the act of hitting the ball
to let it go over the net into the other side
of the volleyball.
