COMEDY
What is COMEDY ? Comedy is one of the oldest forms of drama. Comedy highlights that human beings are in fact ridiculous and cannot change. Comedies, therefore, often confirm our view of the world. Comedy is anything which make you laugh.
is an exact science and anyone can learn it.
How to Play Comedy You must know the joke. You have to know exactly where the laughs are and leave room for the audience to react. Your laughs come from your knowledge of them, not accidentally .
The History of Comedy Comedy dates back to the era of silent film in 1895 where it first began to be shown in television programme . With the absence of dialogue/speech it was very difficult for comedy to come across and between the years 1895 and 1930 silent film comedy relied heavily on slapstick and burlesque humour .
Slapstick 1895 The first known silent comedy film was called “Watering the Gardener” by the Lumiere brothers in 1895. It was the first known slapstick comedy and it only lasted 49 seconds.
Charlie Chaplin 1914 Charlie Chaplin was the master of slapstick, he revolutionised the slapstick era by self directing and creating his comedy films.
1930-50’s Comedy The silent film era was growing out of fashion due to the addition of dialogue and advanced technology meant that comedy was taken to a new level. Verbal humour was used more and more and slapstick was used less and less.
1960’s Comedy During the 1960s there was a increased number of broad, star packed comedies including It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963), Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines (1965) and The Great Race (1965). The Pink Panther was one of the most successful films in 1960’s comedy

Parody / spoof I mitating real to duplicate in a funny manner to make people laugh
Stand-up comedy A comedian (person who tries to make people laugh) stands up in front of a crowd and tells jokes and silly stories
Black Humor / Dark Comedy C omedy and satire where grave topics like death, rape, murder, marital affair, human annihilation or domestic violence are treated in a satirical manner
Comedy Reality Shows R eality shows are suppose to be serious. But some shows talks serious issues with humors with real time people with humor Serious + Funny
Dramedy F unny story in a dramatic way which has many episodes telecasted weekly or daily basis
Silent comedy C haracters will not speak in the show. But the actions of them will make audience laugh
Candid Camera T he clips will be shot in public for fun involving public people but they don’t know that they have being shot
Variety A rtists perform something funny in stage in front of a crowd to make them laugh. More over like clown comedy
Cartoons S eries of animated characters which make people laugh. Created for children Anything is possible to show in a cartoon which is not possible in real life.
Tips for doing Comedy Comedy is not clowning, comedy is doing preposterous things for the wrong reasons. Make it all happen in heightened reality. Essence of all comedy ; you need to find the underlying basic joke throughout.
