Geetanjali ~A work of Rabindranath Tagore -By Naman Joshi 8 th D
RABINDRANATH TAGORE Author of the "profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful" poetry of Gitanjali , he became in 1913 the first non-European and the first lyricist to win the Nobel Prize in Literature . Tagore's poetic songs were viewed as spiritual and mercurial; where his elegant prose and magical poetry were widely popular in the Indian subcontinent . Rabindranath Tagore FRAS was a Bengali poet, writer, playwright, composer, philosopher, social reformer, and painter during the age of Bengal Renaissance. He reshaped Bengali literature and music as well as Indian art with Contextual Modernism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Introduction Gītāñjali, a collection of poetry, the most famous work by Rabindranath Tagore, published in India in 1910. Tagore then translated it into prose poems in English, as Gitanjali: Song Offerings, and it was published in 1912 with an introduction by William Butler Yeats.
THEME Gitanjali's main topic is devotion to God. This study focuses on the Indian philosophical components of Rabindranath Tagore's Gitanjali and the concept of devotion. Gitanjali emphasises God's all-encompassing presence. Gitanjali brings its readers face to face with the Infinite.
Poetic Language The myriad literary techniques—from symbolism and metaphor to personification and alliteration—serve not only to beautify the text but also to deepen our understanding of Tagore's spiritual and philosophical messages The poetic language of Gitanjali: a journey through Tagore's lyrical masterpiece Discover the profound beauty and emotional depth of Tagore's Gitanjali, a poetic masterpiece that transcends language and time.
GITA AND GITANJALI The word Gita means songs too. And the word Anjali means a tribute to his Creator. So the title Gitanjali denotes that these songs are an offering to God. It shows the great influence of the Upanishads and the Gita on Tagore.
REVIEW This book has a separate period of aura and energy (1900-1912) which had reflections of maturity. I personally was deeply moved by philosophical, spirituality, peace and harmony in his poetry and I firmly believe the Gitanjali is not worth a Nobel Prize but a Nobel Prize is worth for Gitanjali .
