What is health?

According to WHO -

"physical, mental, and social
well-being, and not merely the
absence of disease and
infirmity"

Holistic Health - an approach to life
-considers the whole person and
how he or she interacts with his
or her environment
-emphasizes the connection of
mind, body and spirit.

Health is not just the absence of
disease or illness; rather, it is the
condition of complete physical,
emotional, intellectual, social, and
spiritual well-being
The dimensions of health
complement one another and are
equally important in achieving holistic
health.

Physical
Physical health refers to the state
of one’s body - its composition,
development, functions, and
maintenance
To attain optimum physical health:
- regularly take nutritious food
- exercise
-and keep away from vices and substance
abuse as well as risky behavior.

Emotional
Emotional health pertains to
-understanding one's emotions
and knowing how to cope with
everyday problems and stress
Emotionally healthy people are
always in control of their mood,
emotions, and behaviors

Mental/Intellectual
Intellectual health is the cognitive
ability to develop skills and
knowledge to enhance our life
The intellectual capacity helps
stimulate one‘s creativity and
improve one’s decision-making
ability.
Intellectual health, most of the time,
goes hand in hand with emotional
health

Social
Social health is
-your ability to form meaningful
relationships with other people
-interact in healthy, positive ways
-adapt to different social
situations
-experience a sense of belonging

Moral/Spiritual
Seeking the meaning and purpose
of life is being spiritual
Spiritual health refers to one’s
personal beliefs and values
Spiritual health is achieved when
you feel at peace with life
It is when you are able to find hope
and comfort in even the hardest of
times

Vocational /
Occupational
Vocational health applies to
-behavior and attitude in
carrying out duties and
responsibilities

-As a student: fulfill school
requirements; willingly perform
tasks/chores at home

Interrelatedness of the Six Dimensions of Health

Understanding each of the health
dimensions and the interrelationship
among them is essential. When we
are able to maintain the optimum
condition of all the dimensions of our
health, only then can we say that we
have achieved holistic health.

To sum up...
