Home based Kangaroo Mother Care

A short lecture in the Marathi language on how frontline health functionaries can begin implementing Home based Kangaroo Mother Care in hard to reach , high burden districts .

•All the newborns in community.
•It is very difficult to identify LBWT and PT Babies.
•Difficult to explain mothers why one baby is being given KMC and other baby is
not given KMC.
•Mature term babies will not continue to remain in KMC and can be stopped within
few days.
•Benefits of bonding and early start of breast feeding but no harm.
•All the babies who have LBW and who are born premature must be included.
•Babies with major illness may be delayed for KMC till medical problem settles.
•KMC may be difficult in few babies with major congenital defects.
•Babies with minor illness can be included as HBKMC may be the only option of
care available.
