HOME VISIT

Home visit It is one of the most important aspects of community health services. It is the backbone of community health nursing. A major distinction of a home visit is that health professional goes to the client rather than the client coming to the health professional  

Definition It is defined as providing the services to family at their door step to maintain the health & to reduce the mortality & morbidity in family.

Health service requires technical skills knowledge of preventive & Therapeutic measures teaching ability judgement full understanding of Human relations

P u rposes To observe the family structure, lifestyle & cultural practices. To establish relationship with family members To find out the health problems To provide nursing care

To teach the family about the health problems. To guide & counsel the family related to various health problems To do follow up & evaluate the health care . to refer the complicated cases for hospitalization or institutional care.

Phases of Home Visits 1. Initiation phase : CHN informs the family about the purpose of visiting after giving introduction of herself & also obtain information about the family members.

2 . Maintenance phase CHN maintain the IPR for which she uses her talent for making herself acceptable to family members. She provides services & solve their problems & helping them in crisis.

3. Termination phase After providing care to the family , terminate the visit. Always record the visit Evaluate whether planned objectives were achieved or not.

ADVANTAGES Home visit permits the nurse to see the home & family situation in action. Family members will be relaxed in their own surroundings. Socio Economic background becomes clear It provides an opportunity to observe the environmental, social & family situation.

It helps the nurse to modify her way of care based on the resources available at home. It provides an excellent opportunity to community health nurse to implement nursing process. It helps in establishing rapport with the family members. It helps in continuity of family health care.

Dis Advantages Consumes lot of time & energy Non acceptance by the family members. Sometimes have to face dreadful events. Nurses safety can be an issue
