Overview of the alternative system of medicine Homeopathy.

Slide Content

What is homeopathy ?
•Homeopathy is a unique, natural, holistic system
of medicine which stimulates the body’s healing
responses with no known contraindications or
common side effects.
•Homeopathy is an alternative medical practice in
which extremely dilute amounts of certain
natural substances are used to treat various
ailments.
• Homeopathy is also known as homeopathic
medicine and was developed in Germany more
than 200 years ago.

Homeopathic treatments are highly
individualized
•There is no uniform prescribing standard for
homeopathic practitioners.
• The holistic nature of homeopathy means each
person is treated as a unique individual. Their body,
mind, spirit and emotions are all considered in the
management and prevention of disease.
• Taking all these factors into account a homeopath
will select the most appropriate medicine .
• Homeopathic medicine based on the individual’s
specific symptoms and personal level of health to
stimulate their own healing ability.

Principles of Homeopathy
•Every science has certain fundamental
principles which guide the whole system.
Homeopathy as a science of medical treatment
has a philosophy of its own and its therapeutics
is based on certain fundamental principles.
•These are:
1. Law of Similia
2. Law of Simplex
3.Law of Minimum Dose
4. The Potentized Remedy

1. The Law of Similars/
Similia Similibus Curentur
•A substance which can cause symptoms in a healthy person
can, in homeopathy’s non toxic micro doses, stimulate cure
in others suffering with similar symptoms regardless of the
cause.
•This fundamental principle is reflected in the name,
‘Homeo’ being Greek for ‘same’ or ‘similar’ and ‘pathos’ for
‘suffering’, i.e., let like be cured by like or more commonly,
like cures like.
• Similimum is the term for the remedy that best matches a
patient’s symptoms.
• e.g., the honey bee remedy Apis, gives us a powerful
remedy for cases with edema, burning stinging pain,
respiratory reactions.

2. Law of Simplex
•The second principle of homeopathy is The
Single Remedy.
• Only one homeopathic remedy is given at
any one time. It would be difficult, if not
impossible, to ascertain the action of multiple
homeopathic remedies given all at once.
•The response of the vital force would be
unpredictable and ambiguous.

3.Law of Minimum Dose
•The third principle of homeopathy is The Minimum Dose.
• This refers to the infinitesimal doses of medicine given as
well as to the repetition of dose only when necessary.
•Drugs given to individuals in material doses frequently
cause side effects or adverse reactions. To curtail this
problem, the homeopath administers the smallest possible
dose so as to maximize beneficial effects and minimize side
effects.
•Repetition of dose is determined by the individual's
response to the remedy. Unnecessary repetition may
lessen the response, even to the correct remedy. In
homeopathy, less is better.

4. The Potentized Remedy
•The fourth principle of homeopathy is The
Potentized Remedy.
•Homeopathic remedies, though made from
natural substances such as plants, minerals,
animals, etc., are manufactured unlike any other
medicine.
•Through a process of serial dilution a very dilute
extract is made. With every step of dilution the
remedy is vigorously shaken-succussed.
• This process of succussion is designed to arouse
the dynamic nature of the medicine.

People involved in homeopathy
1. Samuel HAHNEMANN
In 1796 created an alternate system of
medicines and called it homeopathy.
Born on 10
th
April, 1755 in Germany
He believed in “Like cures like”.

2. James Tyler Kent
He is known as the forefather of modern
homeopathy.

and mental disease symptoms and associated
remedies.

DOSAGE FORM
•Most people buy their remedies either as lactose 'milk sugar' tablets or round
pills made from sucrose, which have been impregnated with a solution of
tincture made from the remedy source. They can also be given in powder form or
in tiny granules which are popular for babies who have no teeth to crunch the
tablets.
•Some remedies are available as ointments to rub on the skin
•And some are available as ‘mother’ tinctures....made from the plant or mineral
source. These can be mixed with water to make lotions for bathing, gargling or
rubbing on the skin.
•And some are prepared into liquid potencies for those who are allergic to lactose
or don't want to swallow tablets.
•Some remedies are sold in clicker packs, which make it easy to drop pilules
straight into the mouth. Otherwise, you may need to tip the dose into the lid of
the remedy bottle or the palm of your hand first.
•Drop the remedy directly onto or underneath your tongue without otherwise
touching the mouth. Then just let it dissolve - don’t swallow it straight away - so
it can be absorbed by the mucous membranes in the mouth. This means it will
quickly be absorbed into the body without having to go all the way through your
digestive track.Solutions are supplied in dropper bottles so one or two drops can
easily be put directly on the tongue, without touching the mouth. The dropper
