How Eating Habits Affect Recreational Activities Participation

our learning objectives 1. Determine how eating habits affect one’s participation in any recreational activities. 2. Identify eating habits and examine how these affects in dealing with physical activities.

Eating habits deals with a person’s choice and decision what kind of food they want to eat, why and with whom they want to eat, and having their own manner of obtaining, storing, using, and even discarding food. Thus, individual, social, cultural, religious, economic, environmental, and political factors influence people’s eating habits.

TYPES OF EATING HABITS ✓ Fueling for performance – before heavy training, an athlete needs the right kind of food that can provide the proper fuel for his or her energy requirement. ✓ Emotional eating - the practice of consuming a large amount of food in response to emotions instead of hunger.

TYPES OF EATING HABITS ✓ Social eating – a person indulges food even if they are not hungry for the sake of being sociable and not offending the host or the group. ✓ Distracted eating – eating while watching tv or recreation events for extended periods of time possess a serious risk to one’s health. Many do not pay attention to their meal as they are distracted by what they are watching; thus, they tend to eat more.

Extrinsic Motivation - The drive for self-fulfillment and satisfaction.

We need to assess one’s health status to be aware of one’s strength and weaknesses and create an action plan in observing a healthy lifestyle.

Risks Factors are things in your life that increase your chances of developing a condition or disease. This includes family history, exposures to things in the environment, being a certain age or sex, being from a certain ethnic group, or already having a health condition.

TYPES OF RISKS FACTORS ✓ Behavioral – usually relates to ‘actions’ that the individual has chosen to take. ✓ Physiological – are those relating to an individual’s body or biology. ✓ Demographic – are those that relate to the overall population. ✓ Environmental – cover a wide range of topics such as social, economic, cultural, political, physical, chemical, and biological factors. ✓ Genetic – are based on an individual’s genes and more prevalent in a certain population or subgroups.

Health Related Fitness Components:

Health Related Fitness Components:

To perform a proper situp: 1. Lie down on your back. 2. Bend your legs and place feet firmly on the ground to stabilize your lower body. 3. Cross your hands to opposite shoulders or place them behind your ears, without pulling on your neck. 4. Curl your upper body all the way up toward your knees. Exhale as you lift. 5. Slowly, lower yourself down, returning to your starting point. Inhale as you lower. Beginners should aim for 10 reps at a time. By hooking your feet together during a situp, you can get a decent workout for your lower legs, too!
