Areas visited ICU PAEDIATRICS WARD MATERNITY (Pre-natal, post-natal and delivery wards) The goal was to identify the areas that need improvement and to be worked on

IN THE ICU We Conducted preventive maintenance of the ventilator machines through surface cleaning Here , we recommend continuous equipment status monitoring

PAEDIATRICS WARD There was servicing and repair of oxygen concentrators in corrective maintenance .

MATERNITY DEPARTMENT This department was in three(3) sections of; pre-natal ward, maternityward and post-natal ward. We carried out problem identification through observation and focus group approaches

Major gaps identified (Technical challenges) 3. Need for anesthetic gas supply chamber 1. Improper monitoring and reporting on medical equipment status 2. Limited supply and improper use of IV-stands NB: Problem No.3 has been consistently studied and followed from the previous study visit that was conducted in the operating theatre

OTHER CHALLENGES (Organizational Challenges) 1. poor hygiene in the wards 2. over queuing of patients in various departments for medical attention. 3. poor accommodation facilities for patient-caretakers. 4. poor medical waste management and disposal RECOMMENDATIONS: Encouraging use of the 5S-criterion to create organization skills and order .(sort, set, shine, standardize, sustain) The hospital management should provide ergonomically suitable medical furniture for patients and care takers.

PROPOSED SOLUTIONS TO DESIGN A SOFTWARE PRODUCT FOR MEDICAL STAFF TO RECORD AND REPORT ON MEDICAL EQUIPMENT STATUS TO DESIGN AND DEVELOP AN ANAESTHETIC GAS SUPPLY CHAMBER TO PROTECT SURGEONS FROM THE EFFECTS OF INHALATION OF ANASTHETIC GASES. TO DESIGN AND DEVELOP AN INTEGRATED ELEVATED & IMMOVABLE IV-STAND THAT SUPPORTS MULTIPLE PATIENTS.
