What is
communism?
A political and economic system where there is
a common ownership of the means of
production.
It produces a classless society where wealth
and resources are equally and fairly distributed.
There is no private ownership, everything is
shared by the community.
The people collectively control production and
distribution to meet everyone’s needs

What is
capitalism?
A political and economic system in which a
country’s trade and industry are controlled by
private owners for profit rather than by the state.
The goal is to make a profit
Prices, production and trade are mostly
determined by supply and demand in the market
There is no equality, people can compete with
each other to grow their business, make money
and improve their living standards

Tsar Nicholas II rule
Russia was ruled
by Tsar Nicholas II
(Emperor) who
had absolute
power
Society was very
unequal, nobles
and royal family
were extremely
rich
Peasant and
workers were very
poor, with harsh
working and living
conditions
dissatisfaction
grew among the
people, leading to
protests and
revolutionary
ideas.
COMMUNISM
was the solution
to this unrest.

The rise of the Bolsheviks led by
Lenin
•The Bolsheviks were a political party that was formed by the
people to rebel against Tsar’s rule.
•It was a revolutionary party led by workers and peasants to
overthrow the Tsar and the ruling class
•They were driven by Karl Marx ideology of Communism but they
believed more in a violent revolution rather than a gradual
reform.
