HOW TO IDENTIFY A NOUN IN A GIVEN SENTENCE?
Study the following sentences:
a) Do not stop me, I am in a hurry.
b) How can you do such a silly mistake?
c) There was a lot of noise in the class.
d) Children jumped out of happiness.
e) When all the relatives left the house, again the house filled with emptiness.
The words that are underlined are nouns.
Rules for identifying a noun:
1. A “Noun” is directly followed by an article (a, an or the) సాధారణంగా నామవాచకం మ ందు (a, an or the) వసాా యి.
a) It is a surprise to see you here.
b) The culprit was caught.
c) An adult can understand your problem.
2. In some sentences “Nouns” are followed by prepositions. సాధారణంగా నామవాచకం మ ందు prepositions
a) Soon she recovered from loneliness.
b) Since the doctors attended him in time, he is out of danger.
c) The baby cried out of fear.
3. A “Noun” is followed by some quantifiers. సాధారణంగా నామవాచకం మ ందు సంఖ్య, పరిమాణాన్ని సూచంచే పదాలు
ఉంటాయి.
a) Any suggestion on the topic shall be accepted.
b) Some speculations predict that our population crosses America’s population very soon.
c) A number of protesters marched towards assembly.
4. We may frame a phrase in the pattern – article + adjective + noun
a) A right decision at a right time always makes us successful in our life.
b) A good teacher always inspires a student.
c) An excited mob of fans tried to gather around the heroine.
5. Some countable nouns have plural forms whereas uncountable nouns do not have plural form but they take
determiners like any, some.
a) Accepting too many suggestions is dangerous.
b) Do you have any information about your brother’s arrival?
c) We need dedicated teachers.
