2. You need to follow 7 steps

3. 1 .Perform wudu ( ablution) before you go to sleep.  2 . Before climbing into bed,  you  should dust off your  bed with the sheet and tell   : بِسْمِ  اللَه 

4. 3 .Put together your  hands ( as you are making dua ),  blow on it and recite: ” surat   AI- Ikhlaas , surat , AI- Falaq and surat   An-Naas. Then wipe the  parts of the body that you could reach. you begin with the head, then the face and then the front part of your body .Do this three times

5. 4 .Sleep on your Right side 5 . Read the remaining of dhikr ( zikr ) or remembrance of sleeping ( Quran and dhikr   from sunnah ).

6. 6 -Read dua for nightmare 7 - You can dua using your own words to ask protection from bad dreams. Also, you can make dua to have nice dreams.

7. Dua for nightmare أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ غَضَبِهِ وَعِقَابِهِ وَشَرِّ عِبَادِهِ وَمِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَأَنْ يَحْضُرُونِ

8. Dua for nightmare أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ غَضَبِهِ وَعِقَابِهِ وَشَرِّ عِبَادِهِ وَمِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَأَنْ يَحْضُرُونِ

9. Translation - Dua for nightmare 'I seek refuge with the complete words of Allah from His anger and His punishment and the evil of His slaves, and from the evil suggestions of the shayatin and from their being present.

11.   :Al-Bara' b. ' Azib reported that Allah's, Messenger (may peace be upon) said: When you want to go to bed, perform ablution as is done for prayer; then lie down pn the right side and recite : " O Allah, I turn my face towards Thee and entrust my affair to Thee. I retreat unto Thee for protection with hope in Thee and fear of Thee. There is no resort and no deliverer (from hardship) but Thou only. I affirm my faith in Thine books which Thou revealed and in Thine Apostles whom Thou sent." Make this as the last word of yours (when you go to sleep) and in case you die during that night, you would die upon Fitra (upon Islam). And as I repeated these words in order to commit them to memory, I said:" I affirm my faith in Thy Messenger ( Rasul ) whom Thou sent." He said: Say:" I affirm my faith in the Apostle ( Nabi ) whom Thou sent." ‏ ‏.‏ Reference     : Sahih Muslim 

12. Abu Hurayra reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, " When one of you goes to bed, he should dust his bed with the inside of his lower garment. he should say, 'In the Name of Allah. ' He does not know what might have come on it after he left it. If he wants to lie down, he should lie down on his right side and say, 'Glory be to You, my Lord, I have laid down on my side by You and I raise it up by You. If you take my soul, then forgive it. If you release it, then guard over it as You guard over Your righteous slaves.'" Grade    : Sahih

13. Yahya related to me from Malik that Yahya ibn Said said that he had heard that Khalid ibn al- Walid said to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, " I have nightmares ." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to him, " Say, أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ غَضَبِهِ وَعِقَابِهِ وَشَرِّ عِبَادِهِ وَمِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَأَنْ يَحْضُرُونِ ‏" 'I seek refuge with the complete words of Allah from His anger and His punishment and the evil of His slaves, and from the evil suggestions of the shayatin and from their being present (at death).' "
