Star Wars Hero s Journey Analysis
In 1977 an amazing, adventure filled, science fiction film was released by director George Lucas,
starting one to many obsessions called Star Wars. It was the first of many episodes to come, they
named it Episode 4 A New Hope. In the beginning it shows the Rebel forces being attacked by the
Empire on a spaceship to receive plans that the Rebels have came up with. A princess whose name is
Leia was in a hurry to make sure they do not take the plans so she puts them, and a recording of her
explaining what they are, in a little robot names R2D2; she then puts him and his robot friend C3PO
on an escape pod and blasts them out of the spaceship which gets notified to Darth Vader, the one

There are ten steps of the journey, and they are all very important to shaping the hero, the steps are:
conscious realm, unconscious realm, the call, departure, threshold, task tribulator trial, transformation
of consciousness, ritual, and return. The first step is in the conscious realm, which is presented by
Luke being on his home planet or land. It will transfer over to the unconscious realm as the second
step ,when Luke and his friends leave land on a spaceship and starts traveling in space to the Death
Star. Next is the calls, usually there is just one but in Star Wars there is a mini call and a major call.
The mini call is Luke cleaning up R2D2 and find the plans that Leia sent to go to Obiwon. Luke thinks
she is beautiful and she is a princess so he wants to do something that can help save her. The major
call is after Obi Wan, or Ben, saved Luke the plans is presented to him, Obi Wan wants Luke to help
him save the princess, Luke declines his offer because he can t leave his Aunt and Uncle. After the call
is the departure which is Luke, Ben, Han Solo, Chewbacca, C3PO and R2D2 trying to leave the planet
in a hurry on a spaceship but the storm troopers is trying to prevent them from leaving because they
want R2D2. Eventually, they beat them and was able to leave and enter into space somewhat safely,
getting past the threshold. The tasks are saving Leighia, getting away and out if the Death Star,
escaping the Empires spaceships; which he did very heroically. The tribulator is his mentor, Obi Wan,
dying and with him losing so many people in few days it helps the trial come very easily. Now the trial
is Luke becoming a fighter pilot for the Rebel forces to destroy the Death Star. Now the most
important part is the transformation of consciousness, because it is usually at the climax and the
