The High-Tension Line Problem: How We
Found an Alternative Path for Jhotwara
It’s a common dilemma in public service: you encounter a problem where the rulebook
seems to present a dead end. Do you throw your hands up and say, “It can’t be done,”
or do you dig deeper to find a solution that works within the framework?
We faced precisely this in Jhotwara’s Dhavas Road area.
The challenge was a critical one. A High Tension electrical line passed overhead, and
safety regulations clearly state that a conventional road cannot be built directly beneath
it. This rule exists for excellent reasons—to ensure public safety and maintain
infrastructure integrity. But for the families living there, it meant continued difficulty with
accessibility and connectivity.
The easy answer was to cite the rule and move on. The right answer was to
ask, “What can we do?”
My commitment to the people of Jhotwara is to find solutions, not excuses. This
commitment forced us to think creatively. We explored alternative materials and
construction methods that would comply with safety norms while fulfilling the
community's need for a proper road.
The result? A brand new Interlocking Paver Block road on Dhavas Road.
This alternative solution is a perfect fit. Interlocking roads are durable, cost-effective,
and can be installed with minimal environmental disruption. Most importantly, they
provided a safe and robust surface for the residents without compromising the safety
protocols under the high-tension wires.
This is more than just a new stretch of pavement; it’s a testament to a different kind of
leadership—one that is proactive, innovative, and relentlessly focused on the people it
serves. It proves that with determination, a "no" can often be transformed into a "how."
My pledge to the families of Jhotwara remains unwavering. Where there is a will and a
genuine desire to serve, a path forward can always be found. Even under a high-tension
line.
